City Officials, Contractors Do Walk Through Of Condemned Site In East End

News release from Mayor’s Office:

Mayor Ganim joined Office of Planning and Economic Development, 139th district Council members Ernie Newton and Eneida Martinez as well as contractors interested in winning the bid to demolish 604 Newfield Avenue and 18 Revere Street.

Mayor Ganim stated, “The site has been challenged with quality of life and safety issues. Thanks to the constant commitment and emphatic leadership of Councilman Newton, Councilwoman Martinez, and other elected officials, the reclaiming of the East End will soon materialize in new, exciting developments.”

The Planning and Economic Development office will be undertaking this demolition in support of the new Honey Locust Square Retail plaza and historic Newfield library restoration slated for Stratford Avenue. Demolition is expected to begin May 1st, 2020. After demolition, the site will be reviewed by the City of Bridgeport Engineering Department to assess whether it can be utilized by prospective developers to improve traffic circulation into the nearby retail development.

    Oh, there is something.
    The title of those who serve on the City Council is ‘Council Member’, not councilman, councilwoman or councilor. It was specified in the charter revision of 1993 when it was was changed from ‘Alderman’. We were way ahead of our time in the use of a gender-neutral term.
