Chief Porter: Don’t Target My Officers – Pereira Spreads More Repugnance On WICC Airwaves, Gomes Juggles Quagmire

Troubled City Councilwoman Maria Pereira took to the airwaves Friday morning of WICC’s Melissa Sheketoff – with a rebuttal from Mayor Joe Ganim – to dig in on her off-the-rails communication to City Council President Aidee Nieves and fan more scorn and fabrications after this declaration, and many others, “The point is I don’t back down from anyone and I do mean anyone which includes Porter the Pig and his piglets.”

The genesis of that statement, an inflammatory throw in to a hate-filled diatribe following an effort by the City Council to build local solidarity over Middle East international hostility, is Pereira’s election day arrest for allegedly assaulting a 70-year-old woman at the JFK voting precinct, a case still pending.

To start, Sheketoff provided Pereira a lot of latitude about the reasons for her rant and in typical  Pereira style she projected criticism of her onto others with wildly held exaggerations and falsehoods. Pereira tried to fashion a cloak that her communication to Nieves and Mayor Joe Ganim’s Deputy Chief of Staff Tom Gaudett was not for public distribution when, in fact, it was very much a public matter, subject to public disclosure, irrespective of how it was shared beyond the two immediate recipients.

Then Sheketoff weighed in more directly: what’s the point of fanning the flames of discontent? What does it get you? Why such language?

Pereira meandered about trying to demonize Ganim and anyone associated with him, bringing it back to the phony patina that is often her safe harbor. Pereira held her ground when asked if she should apologize. She also said she would not resign, as called by City Council leadership and a slew of other officials.

Pereira spoke of her support of Ganim opponent John Gomes, who is now in a political pickle and the potential aftershocks this could have on his future.

Pereira pointed out that Ganim lost the walk-in vote propelled by absentee ballots. Here’s the part she left out: in the Democratic primary Pereira lost the walk-in vote handily lifted up by her absentee ballot operation. Tit for tat, right?

Gomes has boxed himself in with Pereira, not that he wasn’t warned. It’s just a matter of time until this relationship completely blows up. That’s what Pereira does.

Gomes told the Connecticut Post’s Brian Lockhart: “The content of her email is not condoned by myself or my campaign. As elected officials, we have to not only support our residents but those within the public safety sector.”

Gomes demured when asked if Pereira should resign. Leave that up to the City Council.

Gomes was forced to create some distance after the latest dust up but Pereira’s zealous absentee ballot harvesting, on his behalf, is not something he wants to risk losing. Gomes also lent some distance after Pereira’s election day arrest, something she noted with threats to bolt the campaign that is undergoing internal leadership strife.

With less than three weeks to the redo Democratic primary, this race may take on twists and turns but Pereira’s grenade will certainly leave lingering shrapnel for a campaign that should have had the wind at its back considering the absentee ballot controversy that led to a new primary.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Lockhart, Chief Roderick Porter declared: “We just try to do our jobs in a fair, impartial way. You can target me. But I would appreciate not targeting my officers. You want to call me something, that’s fine. They don’t deserve to be called stuff like that.”

Bravo, Chief Roderick Porter. A cops cop is the way to go. Maria Pereira is the type of creature who wold eat your children. Among the many things she has gotten away with is this:

      https://onlyinbridgeport.com/wordpress/gonzalez-files-police-complaint-against-pereira-following-sexually-explicit-facebook-attack-at-family-contacts-child-agency-about-potential-covid-exposure-from-pizarro-party/

The recent antics of Pereira got me thinking of how Police Officers; their friend and families feel when such language are thrown at them. I questioned the my own use of words and labels I’ve directed at Chief Roderick Porter. Just when I was in the process of writing a commentary, I finally reached Lennie on the phone and told Lennie the I was writing a commentary extending my sincere apology to Bridgeport Chief Roderick Porter for any filings of disrespect as a result of my choice of word-play. A shake of hands shall take place one day. This is exactly what the late Steven Auerbach and I did.

      1. Well stated Speedy. 🙂

While it’s clearly evident Maria’s antics are classless and she believes she is smarter than everyone, who likes to demean people, intellectually. Maria may have anger and other issues she has to work out. But I wouldn’t correlate Maria’s attack on you and your family and Porter, the chief of the Police, and the officers, as pig and piglets under him as the same level of visceral repugnance.

Generally speaking, Maria didn’t coin the word pig for officers. Considering how the police have been portrayed in the media, right and wrong, in the madness of Trump and BLM. Being just called a pig or piglets is progress, in a sense. JS

Chief, while I am not targeting you, can I call you Logical Choice? 🤣

Full disclosure Lennie coins the term for you. 🙃

Depart with the prophet and tribute to the logicalness of it all. Maria, burn the tapes. 🙂

        1. It’s not the first time Maria Pereira directed the “Pig” slur against a Bridgeport public official. I re-collect a time Maria Pereira (maybe it was someone else) called Council President Aidee Nieves, Miss Piggy. Lennie, can you repost that comment and its author?

  1. Is it just me? It seems Maria seems to justify her outrageous, inappropriate behavior/actions based on other outrageous inappropriate behavior actions. #twowrongsmakearight.

Why is there an expectation of privacy thought? Maria’s correspondent was office business on behalf of the Port residents regarding how a public resolution evolved that pertained to inappropriate, illegal, and unlawful acts by the elected office who constructed it. Though she did “PIVOT’🤣 and went off the rails, “On a different note”, courtesy of Maria’s “eloquent” grammar/writing skill. 🤣

G2 was in full campaign mode. 🙂 It’s funny, it seems Maria got John Gomes’ back like Wanda had G2s.

Where did things go wrong Port? Remember the days when Maria and John and supporters were all in the same room at he headquarters with jubilation, and celebration at Testo’s, having The Port’s back and best interest? 🙃

  2. With my TV volume down, while watching News 12, I notice something that freaked me out .
The President of the City Council while kicking María’s Ass and calling for her resignation, she doesn’t realize that she’s surrounded by FELONS , it’s an image I can’t get out of my head, Flucking Felons are running our City and they want to paint Maria Pereira and John Gomes in their Image!
You can’t make this shit up!

    1. Jesus, look at all those LIKEs = 👍. And all you had to do was emphasize the word FELON in a rambling, incoherent spiel, Good Job 🤣

For starters, y’all do know that Maria, Gomes, and his supporters were in the same room supporting, having FELON JOE’s back, I mean SECOND CHANCE JOE to we his reelection. In case the Imagie slipped your mind people. 😅 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3HBtzS_E1I

Not to mention, I believe, perhaps Maria is a FELON, Not a Hamas terrorist FELON. Or at the very least an alleged home invasion/voter fraud FELON. ALLEGEDLY 🙃

As for FELONS running the city? I believe Gomes was part of that apparatus. 😎

    2. John Gomes is an embezzler and a cheat. You of all long-time OIB posters know that very well. You know about the facts surrounding the years John Gomes served as Treasurer for Andres Ayala’s State Rep. and Senatorial Committes. He was the owner of Red Rooster/ Restaurant/ Deli/Bar, while serving as Ayala’s Treasurer, he billed Ayala’s Committe for over $25,000 in other ways such as FOOD. The difference between Joe Ganim and John Gomes and many others (yourself included) is they didnt or haven’t got caught yet. I caught John Gomes with his hands in the cookie jar years ago. SEEC didn’t do and couldn’t do much, It was too late as tthe damage twas done. Ayala cut him off as it was all he could do. You sure you haven’t fallen in love with Maria Pereira Jimfox? Maybe a little, big, long crush?

    3. Jim,
Readers seem to approve your brief, smart, and startling realization while viewing Channel 12. Even RT was able to corral some credit for ‘piggy’ backing your observation. When we went about exercising our faith based second chance attitudes and applied them to political candidates, did we understand that public corruption felonies may require greater evidence of caring about the public, public evidence of remorse when admitting the past actions injurious to the public, and a firm purpose of mending those practices that preceded the illegal acts that were called out, charged, and for which a woman or man was guilty. That is how ‘humble pie’ is consumed, one day at a time. But Ganim2 seeing into the future found a way to have the public pay a higher price by asking to have his first years as Mayor, connected to his most recent eight years, before he had any evidence that he was able and caring in the administration of municipal democratic government. How and why does that happen without public awareness of the process and the cost of bridging his time behind bars and out of office in terms of funding a continuous retirement benefit? Is that fair to all concerned? Time will tell.

  3. Where was the city council’s unanimous outrage when the Former police chief was convicted of conspiracy and false statements to the fbi. Nope they cherry pick but issues to make it appear As though they are on some moral high ground. But they turned a blind eye and looked the other way when the former police chief was convicted. Ironically, they are concerned about how the police are depicted. But there’s no public outrage about the gross understaffing of the police. They’re concerned about how certain groups were described by her comments yet. yet there is no public outrage on the fraudulent elections that shall those votes from these same community members.

    1. If a tree falls in the “Forest” and there’s no one around to hear, did it make noise?
Is there a link to the audio? I’m sure OIB readers would rather hear the entire audio.

    2. Ernie Newton didn’t say anything inappropriate. He wasn’t dumped nor taken off the air. Only 30 seconds left and the time expired for Newton. Just wasted my time, I hope lighting strikes on a Forest somewhere.

      1. Reread my comment. I said he said it BEFORE they could dump him or take him off the air. And I’m sure someone else out there heard it but it was definitely inappropriate for AM radio.

  4. Chief Roderick Porter declared: “We just try to do our jobs in a fair, impartial way. You can target me. But I would appreciate not targeting my officers. You want to call me something, that’s fine. They don’t deserve to be called stuff like that.”

Chief Porter should clean out his ears and listen to what he just said. From what I hear he is running the department with vengeance causing the biggest divide the departments ever seen. A great LIAR AND A GREAT BULLSHITTER. No wonder why the police union is seeking a vote of no confidence in your HORRIBLE leadership.

My question is how nervous Chief Porter for his job status with this upcoming election on the 23rd. I wonder how long until the mayor who ever it is tosses him out on his ass. Chief Porter who is not a fan of Ganim and has never supported his boss. Chief Porter who would preferer John Gomes I guess hasn’t heard that Gomes plans to fire his ass. Porter may be fully retired very soon it’ll be a good talking point and lesson to tell the students when he goes back to being a substitute teacher to say I was thrown out on my ass faster than Acting Chief Garcia was. Help those students that need to hear his crap of story.

But in the meantime, I guess the Porter and Pereira honeymoon is OVER! I wonder how this war between Porter and Pereira will go.

Grabbing some popcorn to watch this drama unfold.

    1. Lennie, can you look for the picture/s of John Gomes with Chief Roderick Porter and post them here.
If Gomes does win and he wants to boot Porter, he would have to buy him out. Don’t even try to bring up the buy- out of Gaudette as Finch re-appointed him before Ganim took office out of pure spite. Gomes would have to wait for Porter’s 5 year term to expire and then he would be able to re- appoint or not.

      1. Joel aren’t contracts made to be broken?
Many have been wondering what kind of a contract Chief Porter received. From what I hear he’s collecting his Chief’s salary and still collecting his pension. Which violates CT CMERS PENSION rule on working after retirement.

        From; https://osc.ct.gov/retirement/mers/retiree-faq/

        Working After Retirement
        42. May I work after I retire and still receive my CMERS pension?
Yes, with a few limitations. First, if you work in the private sector, your pension is not affected. Second, if you return to a participating CMERS municipality or agency in a permanent position, your pension stops immediately. You will resume membership in the CMERS and receive additional service credit for this period of reemployment when you next retire. Third, if you are employed by CMERS as a temporary employee and paid on a municipal payroll, you are limited to working under 20 hours a week. If you work over 20 hours a week at any point in a calendar year you are limited to 90 working days in a calendar year. Any part of a day is considered a day worked. If you go over 20 hours a week and over 90 days in a calendar year you will be required to pay back all pension payments that have been issued to you in that year.

I believe Chief Porter may have some explaining to do to the State of CT CMERS PENSION according to this rule. Also, he would have to repay all of this past years pension money received since he was appointed as Chief.

Last I checked Chief Porter returned to a participating CMERS municipality in a permanent full time Chief’s position. He is not a temporary employee working under 20 hours per week and he definitely works more than 90 days per year. Just ask former Chief Perez and former Assistant Chief / Acting Chief Garcia were they able to collect both when they retired from the union position to those appointed positions. I can tell you NO they were not able to.

This may be something for Pereira to look into since Porter is now referred by her as “Porter the pig”. I guess this is why they say “only in Bridgeport”

        Trouble in Chief Porter’s paradise.

        1. You bring up an excellent point. The only way Porter could return POSSIBLY after retiring with the City of Bridgeport, is if he returned all the benefits he collected, like time vacation time, sick days, etc. Try to F.O.I that one and see how far you get.

          0
  5. Four years is quite always in politics. However, to Lennie’s point, My guess is how logical it will be to renew/cast Porter’s contract. In some aspects, I kinda feel that AJ is PD soap opera drama, not only was he written off but to lose half your pension is, well, it is what it is. As for Garcia, the writers wrote her into to lead role, acting lead role, then exited her stage left, of course after she scaled a building. 😛

As for the internal of BBP, was there ever unity before or after the G2 2015 reelection that the Police Union supported.?

I am kinda disturbed by the word “TRY” in his statement. What do you mean BBP “tries” to be “fair” and “impartial” How does that work? Officer: I try to be fair and impartial, but I decided not.to.🤣

If you think about it, since the G2 reelection in 2015, while we saw four chiefs there had to be over 300 recruits/classes, that has been a continuing process for 8 years. This entire force has to be pretty new. SJ

        1. That was probably the tip of the iceberg in the shenanigans called BBD. You have to assume if it got that brazen the petty shit like shake-downs/robbing drugs deals/perps, abusive arrests, false reporting, or padding their time clock/robbing the Port, etc was pervasive, which I believe we had a few cases made public. What say you logically? Any of such shenanigans going on that you are aware of by your “officers” ( Maria? 🙂 )when TRYing to be fair and impartial?🤣 Fugetabout, that blue line thing y’all got going on. 🙂 I’ll settle for “Try not to be a 🍆” When doing you job, Good Job BPD🤪
