Calling All Candidates, Election Calendar Set

Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill has released the 2017 election calendar that governs candidate eligibility for the September 12 primary and November 7 general election. The calendar covers key dates for ballot access, filing deadlines, party endorsements  and issuance of absentee ballots. See calendar here.

The election calendar has been key in recent election law court cases involving Bridgeport races. This is an off-cycle municipal election season with all 20 City Council seats up for grabs and six school board positions. The wheels are turning for selection of party establishment candidates and potential primary opponents.

Several City Council incumbents are weighing their reelection options.

Some key calendar dates:
Party endorsements: July 18-25, 2017.
Certification of endorsements: July 26, 2017 (4:00 p.m.)
Nominating petitions filed by: August 9, 2017 (4:00 p.m.)
Primary petitions filed by: August 9, 2017 (4:00 p.m.)
