Enough Already! Michael Daly: Fourth City Election ‘Preposterous’

No doubt it sucks to lose after putting more than a year’s effort fundraising, door knocking, phone calling, building coalitions.

A number of political operatives have reached out to losing mayoral candidate John Gomes urging him to be magnanimous, unite the city, begin the healing, save taxpayers more than $100,000 to finance another election with voter fatigue a major factor and the prospect of yet another mayoral vote Feb. 27.

Add Connecticut Post columnist Michael J. Daly to the chorus questioning a fourth vote.

Enough already with the elections in Bridgeport.

Bridgeport Mayor Joseph P. Ganim closed out the recent election Trifecta last Tuesday with another win, the third since the first Democratic party mayoral primary election in September.

He then won the general election in November.

There is talk of yet another election in Bridgeport in February. That is preposterous. What conceivably would be the point. Maybe a playoff format would be good. Three out of five, or World Series style, four out of seven. Let me go way out on a limb here: Team Ganim will win the election in February. Once again, that’s not an endorsement, that’s just the way it is.

  1. That’s not the point. You can’t win if there’s no game.

Perhaps G2 will win a fourth election, need be. However, I would challenge the judge’s authority who stated he had no authority to cancel or postpone the general. Yet he has the authority to null and void that very election, usurping the will of the people, the democratic process itself. (JOHN) and cancel the election/results after the fact, in a sense.

Let Gomes’s camp fight for a new general as they fought for a new primary. However, the wind/montage would be at his back in public opinion with G2 besting him at the machine.

Considering Gomes’s camp/lawyer is requesting the ABs of the 2nd primary to be unsealed even though G2 best Gomes at the walk-in/pols making any finding a moot point. So what would be the point?

Outside of Speedy. It was assumed the election would be a low turnout and a close race, ending in the same manner as the others, with G2 prevailing with ABs. Perhaps the fishing exhibition is to provide hope and the continuance montage of AB corruption that would lead the people to the polls. Or should I say to find their mold in this “I Got You Back” Port Politics?

Considering how the Gomes camp did Wanda, with the release of the video of her stuffing/rigging the game for them, as an effort to gain a new primary and perhaps win the general. I await their findings.

The only point to investigate ABs that have no bearing on the outcome of the election is an effort to gain public opinion for their continuance montage of election corruption/fraud to gain a W. I would think.

I wouldn’t surprised if they call out so many “irregularies” in the unsealed AB. Though I am sure G2 besting Gomes at the pols/machine, perhaps took the steam out of that engine.

It makes sense now that Gomes’ AB controversy that seemed retarded in nature and beyond understanding. Unless it was on purpose, which I have no doubt about that. The question was why? Why is something so needless and avoidable, and continue to do something that you caught five days into the process?

Perhaps as a build-up, as G2 did in the interview in calling out Port’s AB abuse by the Gomes camp.

Perhaps G2 felt like everyone else, except Speedy Gomes was going to win the machine and G2’s AB game was coming in to give him another W.

If G2 thought was Speedy he would have let the issues/controversy simmer and just looked at the legal aspect that best benefits him. Just a theory.

However, one thing is for sure the Garcia/Gomes AB controversy was needless, and manufactured.

P.S. It’s not a playoff format, I started as, for Gomes, winning one out of two, then they played Thanos, without the tears and tossed Wanda for one out of three, the Judge with or without authority made it one out of four.

Who knows the length of the shit they will go, Perhaps one out of have five, six, seven, infinity,

    1. What is the definition of “Enough Already” in El Salvador? On February 4, 2024 El Salvador will hold its Presidential election. This is definitely going to be one of the most watch elections in Central America.

At midnight, the “Enough Already” rule takes effect. Election laws prohibits all forms of political campaigning until election day. El Salvador does not have any form of early voting; Elections are held on Sundays and “dry law” starts on Saturday–No alcohol sales nor public consumption allowed. Salvadorians living out of the country can vote as long as properly registered. By comparison, Puerto Ricans and other US territory residents can’t vote.

About 21 years ago I witnessed the mayoral elections and I was taken aback by the lines of people at the polling places starting the day before.
Back then it was impossible for one party to gain a majority with so many parties vying for power. After the election, the parties who formed coalitions made the majority and controlled the national agenda or should I say their personal agendas.

The world will be watching El Salvador as it is anticipated that the Bukele Blue Wave will wash away the remnants of the byproduct of past failing government officials and the special interest that put them there.

  2. A General Election such as we had in November, 2023, open to all eligible who are registered, can provide satisfactory identification when required,. is one opportunity locally for selection of a Mayor every four years and for other municipal offices every two years to all eligiblr voters.

Sometimes when a party such as the Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee meets, and follows its process (though rules are not available from the office of the Democratic Registrar when I recenty asked), and endorses one or more candidates to available offices, some folks pursue a Primary Election, to contest the endorsement in a closed vote, as to who will represent the party in November General Election.

Bridgeport Democratic Party voters have had three opportunities to complete a ballot, to vote so their voice is heard, since the summer of 2023. But the handling of completed absentee ballots being dropped in one of four authorized ballot boxes was observed by video, shared with SEEC and Court authorities in a suit. The result was that the results of the Primary and the General Elections were not made official as the Court indicated a re-do for the top office of Mayor on those ballots. Other winners were counted, certified, and have been seated in the Council and elsewhere.

Thus, a re-do of a Primary Election was set for January 24, and a re-do of the General Election to follow is scheduled for February 27, 2024. It is likely to be held as scheduled depending if one ore more of three challengers (Gomes, Daniels, or Herz) wishes to contest the General Election candidacy of Joseph Ganim. We await February 1 announcement deadline.

In summary, some loud voices of long time observers may protest money, tiredness, too much pressure on the voting public. And I ask them to acknowledge the REALITY of what happened. Ganim2 cruised into the 2023 Election process as incumbent but knew that there was a significant anti-Ganim2 sentiment. He planned. He executed. And oversight for the two ballot contests observed a close contest and significant corruption of State process for absentee ballots.

A Suit was filed, witnesses were heard, evidence was presented, and many people saw ballot stuffing by individuals on video as the Court did. Judge made a decision and we were faced with two new opportunities to cast an informed and valid vote. The ballot is our voice, though too many eligible and registered voters value their civil rights too little. Voting does not take much time when you think about the benefits of having caring, competent, qualified, and principled leaders in office. Becoming informed as to character and competence, as well as the facts and context does take time and thought.

I disagree with Mike Daly profoundly. Did you stop to think that if there is no General Election balloting on February 24, then only members of the Democratic Party will have had the opportunity to elect our next Mayor? For Unaffiliated, Republican, or other party members, not able to vote in January, they will have to wait until 2027 for a Mayor. Is that your intention to let 7% of Democratic Party members who did vote in the January Primary to control the Office of Mayor? Do the numbers: About 70,000 registered and about 4900 ballots were counted for Ganim. Is the math correct? And is it right to sit with so many recent non-voters in Bridgeport relative to our population and eligible registered, doing nothing? What suggestions are there to improve the practices of every voter going forward to live democratic practices and enjoy the freedom and liberty that can happen when the vast diversity, includes itself in voting, and seeks full equality and equity for all? Time will tell.

  3. Let’s look at it from a different angle, people. The court made its decision and stated it had no authority to postpone or cancel the general when it ordered a new primary for Gomes, based on the ballot “irregularities”. I get that, however, it also orders a new General. But why was it that if Gomes won the general election in Nov. it was over and he would be mayor?

Why would it have been over if Gomes won the Nov general if the two elections were ordered by the court and the Nov didn’t count?

Gomes or the G2 camp didn’t run the Nov general like it was a waste of time and money because of the court-ordered ordering a new primary and general.

Gomes’ and G2’s fundraising effort was in full swing and everyone was spending like it mattered, right Paramount?

Let that Pythagorean theorem sink in and hypotenuse on that people. 🤣

  4. A Flucking Mulligan?
You want to hand Joe Ganim (The Superfecta) or in golf, a (Mulligan) or to say to Ganim we had (Enough – pick it up Joe.)
    NYT
“Voters say that campaigns in Connecticut’s largest city routinely rely on absentee ballots — collected illegally — to win elections”. .
    By NYT Amelia Nierenberg

You want to give Mario and Joe a (Mulligan)?
Why not let the entire City vote for Mayor , Joe Ganim knows he will LOSE…….. He knows it!
The special general election is on Feb. 27.
    It’s called democracy !

    1. Oh, the Feb 27 election is special, alright, and I will agree a mulligan for Gomes. 🙂

Has anybody recalled the general election in Nov?

Are the people supposed to believe the Gomes fundraised efforts, all money sending, and the efforts of their operatives harvest ABs? The campaign asked the people to come to the polls so their voices could be heard to vote out corruption in the Port. The passion and emotion by Gomes and his supporters on election night was just practice for the Feb 27 general election 🤣

I don’t know how withdraw something after it been settled. I guess they can do that.

However, then there’s this people. JS Enjoy your democracy people

“If Ganim wins the new primary, he would be reelected mayor, and another general election wouldn’t be necessary, because the relief Gomes was seeking was a new primary election. If Gomes wins the new primary, however, a new city-wide election would have to be held to determine the winner of the mayoral contest, Bloss said.”

  5. The time has come to end this feud. I think John Gomes and his supporters know that this was a long shot and they made a respectable showing. Think about it is John Gomes the answer to Bridgeport’s future success? Gomes is someone who wanted to teach Ganim a lesson in who NOT to mess with. I don’t believe that Gomes feels that he is more qualified than Joe Ganim. I believe that Gomes simply didn’t want the person who fired him to be mayor. He traveled this road with Finch and when he could not get enough support for a Finch challenge he joined the Ganim campaign. This is just another feud with the person who fired him. Since Ganim 1 the only competent Mayor Bridgeport had was John Fabrizi. Unfortunately John had some personal problems, but being the man of integrity that he is he showed his love for the city and stepped down, choosing not to run for re-election. So now it’s time for John Gomes to show his love for Bridgeport and end the Ganim Gomes feud. Step down John. You showed Mayor Ganim that you do have the power to make life complicated for him (and the innocent people of the city). Please John step down enough is enough.

  6. I believe a CT Judge ruled that Ganim did NOT win the first two because of the volume of fraud. Those elections were corrupted by his teams illegal behavior, which Ganim himself ultimately “owned”. So the Judge ordered a new Primary and a New General Election.

So, even if you believe that Team Ganim played fairly in Primary #2 (and the jury is still out on that!), the entire voting population of our City is entitled to elect their Mayor, NOT JUST THE DEMOCRATS!

    1. Finally an old fool decides to post an comment. So, Gomes was Rob(bed) three (3) times according to your point of blinded view. One thing is for sure, Rob is in bed with Gomes. You’re hoping John Gomes wins so that one day, he’ll back you for Board of Education President. That will NEVER happen.

You believe in fairy tales. How could the Judge have ruled that there were improprieties in the election when the “election” had not taken place yet?

Stop spreading your bullshit here and on Facebook. You time is best spent with your grandchild or fly fishing with Bill Finch.

      1. Joel, read this slowly so that you can understand …
The Judge ruled the 1st Primary and its results were corrupted by the illegal behavior of Team Ganim. Even Joe Ganim “owned” or accepted responsibility for this.

The 1st General Election was affected by the corrupted results of the Primary. So, the Judge ordered “do overs” FOR BOTH.

The election last week, even if honest (and that question is still open) was only for Democrats. The other non-Democrat voters in Bridgeport also get to decide who the Mayor will be. The “do-over” was for both elections. All voters get to decide.

        1+
  7. I believe you are just making stuff up. The so-called order was based on the Sept primary. Gomes’s lawyer stated the Feb general was contingent on Gomes winning the new primary.

P S You mean even if you believe Team Ganim DIDN’T play fairly we have to give Team Gomes another bite because we don’t like G2, Democracy be damned, fairy play be damned, the voters be damned. Also, there is no jury on the general.

You are just making a case for a corrupt election for your corrupted needs, plain and simple. Not even faulting you for that, just pointing out that you are doing it Gen Now style, behind the mask of righteousness.

  8. Now why would Governor Ned Lamont worry about another election putting true finality on this very, very bizarre, corrupt Bridgeport mayoral election season?!
Shouldn’t GOVERNOR Lamont be concerned about police surveillance videos of bales of ballots being secretly shoveled into absentee-ballot collection bins in the early morning darkness at Bridgeport City Hall #2 in advance of the September 2023 Democratic Primary by supporters of the mayor of Connecticut’s largest city?! Shouldn’t Connecticut’s governor want to see a full, court-mandated electoral process play-out to determine the candidate all of the voters in Bridgeport really want for their mayor (not just 15% of the registered democrats that voted for Ganim in round # 3 of this election cycle…). What is Ned afraid of? Is he counting on some more ballot-stuffing to get back in the Governor’s mansion in 2026. Does he NEED the current regime of ballot stuffers in place in 2026 to make sure that he stays governor or is in position to launch in another political direction? (It shouldn’t be forgotten that in 2010, Dan Malloy’s gubernatorial election bid was saved by 6 large bags of “miraculously discovered” Bridgeport ballots just as election night was about to go into the history books as a win for Republican Tom Foley…) Has Ned also benefitted from Bridgeport ballot stuffing?! Why hasn’t the governor pulled out all of the stops to get to the nitty-gritty facts of the Bridgeport ballot-stuffing scandal? Why is he afraid of a possible Lamond Daniels win on February 27? Could it be that he knows that politics as usual would change under a Daniels regime in Bridgeport and that Bridgeport would no longer serve as the state’s corrupt “fixer” city for statewide Democrat candidacies?! SHAME ON GOVERNOR LAMONT FOR HIS DE FACTO ENDORSEMENT OF BRIDGEPORT CORRUPTION AND HIS ANTI-DEMOCFRATIC STANCE ON THE COURT-ORDERED GENERAL-ELECTION REDO SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 27! THE BRIDGEPORT ELECTION SEASON MUST BE ALLOWED TO PLAY OUT — HOPEFULLY WITH A WIN FOR LAMOND DANIELS AS BRIDGEPORT’S NEXT DEMOCRATICALLY-ELECTED MAYOR!!! (SHAME ON YOU, NED!) —— GO FOR IT, MR. DANILES!!
