According To AB Application Log, Former Chief Garcia, Supporting Gomes For Mayor, Flaunts Election Monitor Rules

Former Chief Garcia with AB application pad at senior event for mayoral candidate John Gomes.

Election monitors hired by the state to supervise the Democratic mayoral primary redo made clear on day one of their assignment that anyone requesting five or more absentee ballot applications must sign them out at the Town Clerk’s Office and are solely responsible for dissemination to electors. That means they cannot share them with other operatives for distribution.

Former top cop Rebeca Garcia either doesn’t know the rules or is flat out flaunting them in a photo posted on candidate John Gomes Facebook page, holding a stack of applications, at a senior citizen event. Who gave them to her? The absentee ballot application log shows that Gomes supporter Denise Solano signed out a hefty 500 absentee ballot applications. But as of Friday Garcia had signed out for none.

From Secretary of the State:

On day one of absentee ballot application release, our Election Monitor reports that there is already some confusion about what happens once someone signs out absentee ballot applications.  Please see the attached, and importantly, the clause below:

If the Circulator on file with the Town Clerk’s Office asks another individual to help with distributing applications, the name of the additional MUST be registered with the Town Clerk’s Office PRIOR to any applications being distributed to voters.

Garcia, scorned that Mayor Joe Ganim named Roderick Porter permanent chief over her, is staunchly in the camp of Gomes, even running on his slate in a failed City Council campaign.

Hmm, when a former chief flouts the rules? The very ex chief who meowed Porter’s selection was all about politics. She did not mind it when Ganim appointed her acting top cop, right? No politics then.

It has been past practice forever that multitudes of campaign insiders have shared absentee ballot applications with others, irrespective of the camps, something election monitors decided to tighten up to keep an eye on the absentee process that became the centerpiece of a state judge to order another Dem primary. The Gomes camp has sanctimoniously condemned the Ganim camp, in light of the judge’s ruling, despite glaring campaign cracks in its own backyard.

A key difference here is that the city’s once top law enforcement official, according to the application log, is playing by a set of rules unsanctioned by election monitors.

We are now just over a week to the Democratic primary renew. The advance forecast projects a balmy mid 40s weather day in Connecticut’s most populous city with a lot on the line and the potential for another general election.

In this historically peculiar extended election cycle, no matter how this shakes out, this type of conduct will certainly attract attention from election monitors trying to enforce the rules.

  1. Wait a minute is this the “BOSS LADY” committing possible voter fraud? Caught RED HANDED?
Mr. Gomes what excuse will you come up with now? Don’t tell me that’s THE BOSS LADY’S Great Great Great Grandmother? So, its family and its ok!
Oh, how the wheels of justice slowly turn and now look.
I believe Mr. Gomes himself took this picture as well and posted it on his Facebook page which would mean he knows exactly what she’s doing and has no problem with it.

Fire off another complaint on the Gomes camp and now the “BOSS LADY” is the center of attention.

Who knows after the pressure and exposure she also may go MIA like the John Gomes campaign manager. It’s well known that when she’s under fire she runs away on a “pre planned vacation” just look at her time as Acting Chief every time there was major problem, she was MIA on a pre planned trip.

  2. I only see one AB application Boss, Lady, is handling in this photo-op. 🙂

Lennie, play nice. OR should I say, play nicer? #BossLady. 🤣

I stand by my viewpoint. Instead of let’s say BossLady help fill out an AB have them/operatives help fill out an AB request card and have them bring it back to the register office. Then have the office verify eligibility and mail out the AB directly. JS

But I don’t think there’s an appetite for that. What say you Paramount, Teste the Movement, 20000 shades of ballots? 🙂

P.S. If you think about it wouldn’t it be a nicer/better world if people followed the middle finger way, as a means of handling disputes/conflict. ? Nice Job piranha for showing the way. It
might even change the world. 🙃

Though I prefer Star Wars style. Got to love special effects. What say you Paramount? 🤣

I think that she is FLOUTING the rules not FLAUNTING them… (Your friendly AI assistant…)

    1. Jeff, according to John, what Boss, Lady is helping fill out is a yellow form on top that is a Spanish language registration that can be used to initially register with a party or to change your registration at this point from Unaffiliated to Democrat and vote in the primary.

Flaunting or Flouting the rules perhaps, but seemingly not breaking the rules. As Lennie is Flaunting.

There seems to be a whole lot of Flouting going on. Lennie #bosslady. 🙂

Wait a minute, Flaunting would be correct Jeff, because Lennie understands the perception of a photo, from a legal standpoint and journalism defamation, Maria ?:) #lennieplayingnicewithbosslady 🤣

  4. RT,
In agreement with you on what the picture tells us. Or fails to report specifically.
First, the yellow form on top is a Spanish language registration that can be used to initially register with a party or to change your registration at this point from Unaffiliated to Democrat and vote in the primary. Is that any part of what is pictured here? It’s worth considering, isn’t it? Nothing wrong there.
What the other forms may consist of, I cannot tell.
    Lennie,
You indicate that Denise Sodano properly signed out 500 AB request forms, I believe. Grin reports that another “ballot activist” Alfredo likely signed out a similar amount. And there may be a few others who signed out lesser amounts with registrations required for those getting five or more. No quibble there.
But does the picture support the accusation of former Police Chief being a rule ignorer or bender or breaker? In my opinion at this moment: Not!!
But failure to provide a simple step by step process for individuals or groups is not part of systemic information, either. Why not, if we wish to change outcomes that increase the use of citizen voice through registering a vote at each opportunity. Time will tell.

  5. How about you show some journalistic integrity and publish or report on the entire list of people that signed out ballots? While this page does belong to you and you are free to report as you wish… it does seem very biased.

  6. Bids of a feather flock together.

Rebecca “Becky” Garcia will do anything to win and help John be the next mayor. I wonder why? What is in it for her? Possible return to city government?

“Becky” isn’t doing all this campaigning and going door to door for John for nothing in return. I wonder what did John offer or promise Becky to get her to become a Gomes loyalist.

Becky and John are cut from the same cloth they both want to return back to city government with a vengeance.

    VOTER BEWARE.

  7. Imagine what life in Bridgeport would be like with John Gomes as Mayor! A new mayor unlike any mayor ever elected in Bridgeport! One less competent and less intelligent than Bill Finch! Now that takes some doing. Imagine a totally out of control Gomes victory party where police are called to restore order and John Gomes saying do you know who I am and threatening to fire them. Or maybe Becky will be in attendance and she will ask responding officers if they know who Gomes is and request that Chief Porter respond to the out of control celebration so the mayor elect can threaten to fire him.
