Rev. Al Sharpton is scheduled to lead a peace march on Saturday with the blessing of city minister Herron Gaston, a city administrator.
The rally, according to News 12, will start at the Baker Isaac Funeral Home on Stratford Avenue at 10 a.m. and end at the Margaret Morton Government Center
State Senator Marilyn Moore, writing on her Facebook page, calls the invitation appalling. Gaston did not support her for mayor.
I find it appalling that an elected official and a head city administrator would call in Al Sharpton to lead a march when they are in positions of power and have done little to facilitate change. The people of Bridgeport have cried out for change and their voices are ignored. Families camp out in front of the PD and are ignored. Call out the people in power who capitalize on our current crisis. What have they done to sustain this system that works against us and not for us and looks like us? Sick and tire of the fake folks who remain silent in voice and action. Trickery will not work, we are at a crossroads for real, sustainable change to happen and we can not allow insincerely and publicity acts to get in the mix. We have witnessed this play out over and over. NOT THIS TIME! OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS LIVES ARE IN JEOPARDY AND THE TIME IS NOW TO END THE DISRESPECT FOR THEIR LIVES.
State Senator Marilyn Moore, I STRONGLY suggest that you call Rev. Sharpton and have a conversation about your concerns that you have listed. This nothing but trickery by city minister Herron Gaston, a city administrator he his effort to give cover to Mayor Ganim his failure to make positive change in the BPD. Rev. Sharpton needs to know about the police killing of Jason Negron, the incident with 3 cops killing a black man who is on his stomach at Beardsley Park and the party on Colorado Ave that involved 17 cops and so many other incidents and Mayor Ganim has done nothing and Rev. Herron Gaston voice has been silence. Mayor Ganim is looking for cover.

Stephanie Thompson, that was in The Huffington Post, not the Connecticut Post or Only In Bridgeport or any other local media outlet, no, The Huffington Post, a national newspaper, the article helped .Herron Keyon Gaston to get appointed to his City position making over $130,000 a year, where his follow up letter with demands to make change? Yeah, that’s what I thought, nothing but silence.
In fact that’s Rev. Herron Gaston MO (Modus Operandi), he was writing and giving interviews in Florida but he was living here in Bridgeport but nobody knew anything he was writing about in Florida but the very best researcher ever on OIB (not Maria) who pulled my coat about Rev. Herron Gaston.
You are a big dummy! Dr. Gaston wrote for CNN, the HUFF Post, & FLorida related newspapers. He also was a lobbyist who helped to get many bills passed in Florida and CT around criminal justice. If ya’ll dumb asses knew anything you would know that he is one of the leading voices around prison reform and mass incarceration! Why are you all intimidated by intelligence? You remind me of the old black asses in the 60s who hated on Dr. King. All this tells me is that you all are jealous and outdated. Move over. Your time has come and gone. Ron for starters, the cops didn’t kill the kid and Beardsley Park, and the black cop was the only one who got off while the white and Latino cop didn’t. He couldn’t even be mad at the kid for making them casing him around the Port and through the park. In fact, the only running he did was when he gets out of his patrol car to the run-up to the kid to him while he was handcuffed and laying on his stomach. Day, you’d think you would’ve corrected your OIB dynamic duo partner Ron to that. (side note this goes to Rayshard incident. those guns have multiple shots I believe. So image if he got the drop on those cops with it. Not saying it had to end that way after they fought and he had taken the taser. I’m my opinion You really don’t know what could have happened, but you know he was determined to know go to jail. You have to give the cop the benefit of the doubt.
Also so Ron I wouldn’t be too harsh on I candy Rev. Gaston. The only cover I have seen was the 12 or so black and Latino cops’ reports on the white offices who abuse those partygoers. That speaks volumes on the reality of the racism and the Port the law enforcement in general.
I will concede on the need for the firing of the cop who shot two teens and killed one. I will say that incidence was more of willful reckless incompetence then racial motivates incident though. Unlike the cops who tried to arrest Rayshard this trainee officer was one week on the streets of the Port> Boulay created the danger he faced by his reckless incompetence to follow procedures. I hope the Justice of Jayson who camped out in front of the police station got the city council to create a resolution for an independent internal investigation on his action regarding the death of Jayson because as you have seen and the police have demonstrated they can’t be fully trusted investigate themselves considering the after make for the Holloween party incident and those cop reporting. If Sharpton brings so much good to the table in troubled communities around the country why isn’t he camped out in Chicago where as of 5:42PM on Sunday June 21st, (so far this weekend), there have been 61 people shot, with 9 dead. These stats include a 3 year old boy and a 13 year old girl.

I can see it now. There have justice for Jayson Day in the city. Once they get Rev Al to agree all of the so called leaders in the city will line up to march. It would seem that the thing to do, in the case of carefully-considered concerns regarding potential negative/counterproductive effects implicit in a Sharpton-Gaston peace march in Bridgeport, would be to (without nurturing/unleashing the anger/hostility/negativity involved in the political rivalries raising the alarms regarding these concerns), organize a better, more appropriate, separate march/action that will harness the true righteousness of the Moore Camp in addressing the BLM-Bridgeport political/policing concerns providing the impetus for the Sharpton-Gaston march/action.
Perhaps a Moore March, providing starting and ending speeches/ceremonies (delivering the true, righteous message of BLM/Civil-political justice concerns/solutions in Bridgeport), starting from the North Avenue jail (for relevant, topical symbolism), passing by the BPDHQ/Tent Town, the Bridgeport Juvenile Jail/Courthouse, and ending at McClevy Green/McClevy Hall (where Lincoln gave a speech) could be held on Sunday at Noon, following the end of most Bridgeport area church services. The local and national media would be invited to cover the march and speeches — delivering the true, righteous, relevant message of concern — by local clergy/activists and perhaps a nationally-known civil-rights leader (to be invited/hosted), such as John Lewis.
Truly: If the Moore for Senate camp believes that the Sharpton-Gaston/Ganim-(D)Establishment march will be a negative event with counter-productive effects on the current BLM/Civil Justice movement, they should organize and hold their march/action to deliver the true and righteous message. If they are really concerned, then they have a duty to not just complain, but actually DO something appropriate/productive-effective…

Moore is mad at Dr. Gaston because he did not support her for Mayor. My aunt who goes to his church told me that Pastor Gaston asked to meet with her when people were handing out petitions. He even signed her petition to my understanding and told her to come by. She felt she did not need no BLACK clergy support. She felt entitled. In 2014 she primaried and DEFEATED sitting Dem Senator Anthony Musto of Trumbull. At the D22 Democratic Convention held at Testo’s she rec’d only one of Trumbull’s 18 votes (I was there and a delegate)
In 2016 she was challenged in a primary by CC President Tom McCarthy. Trumbull’s TDTC supported him at the convention and the primary and she destroyed him at the polls.
In 2018 Testa/Ganim could not get anyone to run against her.
In 2020 she is being punished for running against Ganim. She gathered only 10 convention votes from Tumbull (of 18) including mine. None from Monroe or Bridgeport.
Trumbull Town Treasurer and TDTC Vice Chair Anthony Musto is the Treasurer of the Marcus Briown Campaign, Trumbull Town Clerk Mary Markham, also a member of the Democratic State Committee and Chair of the D22 Convention also voted for Brown.
Far from being run by the ‘political operatives’ in Trumbull, she is opposed by two of our town wide elected officials, Musto also being Chair of The TDTC Executive Committee.

No competent special education teacher would attempt to use being in need of special education Services as an attempted slight. Our special education students are just like every other student and don’t need to be used as a comparison to insult somebody. If you truly are a Special Education teacher I would suggest diversity and sensitivity training before returning to school in the fall.

Joseph Sokolovick, I’ve asked Stephanie Thompson a number of question about who she is, what has she done to uplift the black community and who knows her because no one on OIB have ever spoken up that they her. I won’t be running into Marcus and Gaudet in the elevators as they have sold their Embassy apartment (using disgraced BPT Civil Service Commission member and Trumbull resident Eileen Gueddes) and moved to Arcadia Ave. Talk about guilt by association. I would’t trade Gueddes for Baraka, and am not electing either one of them to anything.
You don’t know vote counts, in my home alone, there are 4 votes for Senator Moore, all 4 of whom donated to her campaign and have voted for her before and will do so in the primary.
Unlike many posting here, I don’t view D22 as Bridgeport Centric. Bpt has another State Senator, but D22 represents the whole of Trumbull. Senator Moore has produced for Trumbull, I don’t want to give up her seniority and knowledge for a newbie who has produced nothing for his CC district in more than two years.
I would not be talking about education accomplishments when your candidate Brown has just managed to be a college junior at age 29, while you tear down a Black, Female senior citizen who was subject to all types of discrimination that precluded access to higher education. Hell, I’m older than you are and in 1971 Wesleyan University told me the Jew quota was filled. As a white male it didn’t matter much, I got into and attended an Ivy league school. My comment about Brown being of the post affirmative action age does not imply he benefited from affirmative action, BUT sets a timeline showing his youth. He was not alive before the Civil Rights Act of 1964. And as I mentioned I suffered religious discrimination in education 7 years after it was the law.
My comment was to show that he did not have the same stumbling block to completing higher education than we senior citizens who are minorities.
I don’t support Brown’s candidacy, but would not like anyone to think I am accusing him of reaching where he is because of Affirmative Action programs.

Pardon me but I interrupt this blog to update my previous post above about the Chicago statistics which at 5:42PM yesterday were 61 shot and 9 killed. The final numbers are in and a mere 6 hours and 15 minutes later, there were a total of 99 persons shot and 12 killed….according to the Chicago Sun Times.

I must say that for me this has been the most amusing blog in a long long time. Limited bloggers on this particular subject, tearing each other up! I’m sure everyone who reads this blog has seen it.
My only posting on this particular blog topic were comments about statistics of those shot and killed in Chicago. Unfortunately , This morning, Monday, sad to report there were many shootings with deaths resulting in Bridgeport within a 7 hour period yesterday. What was behind this? Was it racism, as some on this blog always blame? Was it poverty? Was it lack of family values and structure? Was it greed or drug dealing?
Which was the reason behind this? Some bloggers on here always attribute these incidents to one of the above. Lack of police protection, training, or manpower?

While Bridgeport has to wait 4 weeks since the police killing of George Floyd before Rev. Al Sharpton is scheduled to lead a peace march on Saturday with the blessing of city minister Herron Gaston, a city administrator. Hartford and New Haven have been having massive protest march for weeks, well New Haven has already made a change from one of the protesters demands.

The Board of Education voted overwhelmingly in support of removing Christopher Columbus’s name from a Fair Haven K-8 school—as well as from an October holiday on the district’s calendar—in the city’s latest reckoning with the 15th-century explorer’s violent legacy.
They voted 6-1 in support of renaming Christopher Columbus Family Academy to a new name, yet to be determined. They said the Board of Ed’s Facilities Naming Committee will take the lead on coming up with a new name for the elementary and middle school.
They also voted 6-1 to switch Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples’ Day on the public school district’s calendar.
