State Rep. Charlie Stallworth on Thursday filed his candidate committee paperwork for mayor with the Town Clerk’s Office joining State Senator Marilyn Moore challenging Democratic incumbent Joe Ganim who’s seeking another four-year term.
He’s planning an official kickoff Sunday, 4 p.m. at the Creative Venue, 40 Logan Street, in the East End.
Stallworth was an early supporter of Ganim for mayor in 2015.
In Stallworth’s East End church, on January 1, 2015, Ganim issued his first public apology about his conviction on public corruption charges in 2003 on his way to a historic comeback. Stallworth, a leader in the politically active Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, emerged as a high-profile Ganim campaign supporter. Ganim rewarded him with a $100,000-a-year job as special adviser to the mayor working out of the mayor’s office.
Stallworth was subsequently demoted which led to a falling-out with Ganim. He resigned from his city job about two years ago.
Can Stallworth raise money to wage a competitive primary race? Or is he running to leverage a deal of some kind with Ganim or Moore?
Stallworth was elected to the State House in a 2011 special election after Chris Caruso resigned to accept a position with the gubernatorial administration of Dan Malloy.
Stallworth in 2016 and 2018 received primary scares from school board member Maria Pereira and former congressional aide Shante Hanks respectively.
PLEASE, say this is a joke.
Sorry Charlie!
I’ll be in DC At the (NLC) National League of Cities.

P.S I heard that Ron Mackey and Donald Day and Steve Auerbach are planning on attend AS Spies For (Sen Moore) and (Mayor Ganim) Have a Great Time! lol
ERNIE..
First of all, maybe you should stay in Bridgeport and deal with your problems of your own constituents. Who cares about your fancy la-di-da meetings outside of Bridgeport. How about talking to your own people? And what is that statement about spies. ERNEST NEWTON… I CHALLENGE YOU, DECLARE IMMEDIATELY WHO YOU WANT TO BE MAYOR OF BRIDGEPORT FOR THE NEXT 4 YEARS!!!
I’m Supporting who support me in my Primary in 2017-19 for city council. Frank and RON you should be concerned with who you are supporting. One must learn you can’t learn anything with out seeing whats working in other States and Cities. None of the individuals running for Mayor live in my district. You both should know better Ernie should be running for Mayor. lol
Ernie,
For years now members of the City Council have been using the majority of their $9,000 annual stipends to attend 1-2 Association meetings out of town that have to do with municipal governance. When they return to the City little is ever heard about “best practices” from other places so Bridgeport taxpayers are essentially funding upwards of $100,000 invested in Council member travel, hotel, food and ‘entertainment’ (registrations for these meetings) that shed no light on better practices for those who pay the bills. Why is that? Will you have a report on the three top items you see helpful to Bridgeport upon your return? Where will it be posted? Perhaps a resolution for all who spend the stipend in this way is appropriate? Time will tell.
I am sorry I Support Frank for MAYOR or Ron Mackey To great Candidates.
OMG.. will Ron and I tussle in a primary. I am ready to hit the streets. 😉
Ernie, I am with you! It would be nice to see Frank or Ron’s name on the ballot. What a joke. Ernie, I personally think you should run for Mayor. You are always working for this City. We love and support you Ernie!
Ernie, who’s paying for this, is it your stipend as a City Council member? Frank, now you know better that Ernie can’t DECLARE IMMEDIATELY WHO HE WANTS TO BE MAYOR OF BRIDGEPORT FOR THE NEXT 4 YEARS!!!
Ron you should know better than making a statement like that. To be honest its really none of your or Franks business who i support. No one has ask for my support. So i’ll be supporting Ernie And Eneida for City Council.. Frank and who cares what you thing. I don’t.
Ernie, who’s paying for this, is it your stipend as a City Council member?
Yes Ron, My constituent have no problems with me learning what going on around the Country. You can’t learn anything just sitting in Bridgeport. We must see what other cities and towns are doing to address issues like Community and Economic Development
Energy, Environment and Natural Resources
Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations
Public Safety and Crime Prevention
Transportation and Infrastructure Services . We have a responsibility to find new ways to address the ills. of Bridgeport.
Ernie, I never questioned you attending the (NLC) National League of Cities and hopefully you comeback put out a written report. .Ernie, again who’s paying for you to attend National League of Cities event, is it your stipend as a City Council member?
Mr.Newton,
Have a safe trip.
Who cares!
LOL! Charlie Stallworth will never resonate in more affluent neighborhoods. Marilyn Moore has proven she can.
He will hurt Ganim at Dunbar for sure. Dr. Ford is his parishoner. He will not make a dent in heavily Hispanic precincts.
Charlie Stallworth has introduced less than 10 Bill’s with over 8 years in the House. Last I checked, not a single Bill has even made it out of committee
Rev Stallworth has done nothing for the people of BRIDGEPORT, He’s an embrassment in Hartford, manipulating vulnerable women and taking advantage of them.
Are you speaking about the bathroom incident in the Legislative Office Building with that woman. Where the Capital Police found them in the bathroom being naughty?
#metoomovement against Stallworth!
lol!!!!!! that is all i have to say of this announcement
I think he will hurt ganim more than moore! nobody in black rock, blackham, winthrop will vote for stalwarth or ganim in these precincts. but he will take away votes from ganim at dunbar and wilbur cross which will benefit moore!!!! i think more district will vote heavily for her regardless if stalwarth is in the race but the other district where moore is less known i think stalwarth will take votes away from ganim. i do not see ganim winning this race. moore has my vote if I’m still living in but by september!
Ernie, for the fourth time, who is paying for your trip to the NLC event and is it being paid with your City stipend from being a member of the Bridgeport’ City Council? And will you provide a written report to the taxpayers and to the council?
Ron,
You are footing the bill. I hope this answered your question. Ernie, keep doing what you do. Maybe next time we will Ron with you to take notes.
Ron
Last year I attended NLC. I reported at a City Council meeting upon returning from from NLC A Report which was placed in City Clerks Office. I’m not new to this Ron I’m true to this and yes I will use my stipends. To gain knowledges on what other cities and towns are doing.
Ernie, thank you for reply, now what did the City implement and put into action from last year when you attended the NLC?
Ron
We Changed our ordinance on Minority Businesses contracts so that everyone has a equal playing field. Making in easier for felons to work in city jobs and hiring Bridgeport residents first. Placing cameras on our polices officers as other cities are doing. We learn that Bridgeport is not unique we can see what is working in other cities and towns.
Ernie..you said “We have a responsibility to find new ways to address the ills. of Bridgeport.”
Without going on your taxpayer paid little vacation,I can tell you how to address the “ills of Bpt”…We must get rid of Mario &Joe making all the decisions. Our city is again in a Fed probe, our police force is in chaos under a Chief who was hired only because he does what he’s told to do.Crime is rampant, businesses open and close in months, our city is the butt of jokes around the state. You want to see what other cities are doing to thrive?,it starts with local leadership, which in Bpt,we have a major void.
Harvey
First of all Bridgeport has had many Police chiefs in the last 10 years or more. I remember in 1981-85 serving on the city council when Joe Walsh was police chief at the time. Then Mayor Lenny Paoletta tried to make changes in the police dept. He placed some one over Joe Walsh to run the day to day operations in the police dept. Nothing will change until we have true community policing in our city. This is not new its been happening all over the country. Accountability is what we need in this CITY!
Ernie, you said, “We Changed our ordinance on Minority Businesses contracts so that everyone has a equal playing field. Making in easier for felons to work in city jobs and hiring Bridgeport residents first.,” This has already been a state law.
Ernie, Mayor Lenny Paoletta attempted to create a new position called “the Public Safety Director” and the person selected was Jonathan and his duties was to be over both the police and fire department. Mr. Best did not have the qualification plus the position was never legally created.
Ernie, first Paoletta had the police commissioners to vote out Walsh replaced him with Thomas Thear from Michigan.
Ron you are wrong He put Thomas over Joe Walsh because the police commission and the union supported Joe Walsh. Lenny could not remove him so he put Tom over him. and you are wrong about our ordinance had to be change to strengthen and make some changes in it. Ron you will always try to disagree with me. Please don’t take my word just go do your homework and you will see.
An individual like Stallworth claiming to be a man of God. That’s the problem with society today! Abusing and using his powers over vulnerable people. Reminds me of the ills of the Catholic Church.
Excuse you Advanced Therapy just who do you think you are? You may question Reverend Stallworth’s abilities as a state representative, but you know absolutely nothing about him as a man of God and your statement of him claiming to be a man of God is based on ignorance because I can guarantee you that you’ve never attended a church service at his sanctuary.
You would like a certain idea/concept to be true, so you end up believing it to be true. You are motivated by wishful thinking. This error leads the you to stop gathering information when the evidence gathered so far confirms the views (prejudices) one would like to be true. Sounds familiar?
Donald Day she (Advanced Therapy) is a Maria Pereira deciple.
Never meet her, and really don’t care to.
Thanks Joel, that explains a lot.
let him who is without sin cast the first stone.
Excuse you, Mr. Day!!!! Stallworth preys on the vulnerability of women and uses his status as a man of God. In my opinion he should win a Oscar for best actor, because he puts on a great act. It’s not just the Catholic Church where there is sexually abuse. So you keep on going to the Greatest Show on Earth every Sunday. When you have some free time take a ride to the State Capital and start asking questions regarding Stallworths behavior.
Advanced Therapy, tell us about the ills of the Catholic Church.
There appears to be some interest in accountability of city council members and their NLC junkets. Ernie is not the only council members who participates in these junkets and expects people to believe there is a benefit to constituents.
Perhaps the CT Post will do a story to report on which members of the city council go on this and other junkets and the cost to Bridgeport taxpayers. Lennie can then share it on the blog so those of us with detailed knowledge of the cost to taxpayers with lack of any benefit to taxpayers can comment.
There is a old proverb that states even a broken clock is certain to be right twice a day. Let’s see our Bridgeport taxpayers dollars at work whenever city council members go on these junkets a report that the media could see.
Ron you are something else. You are a bitter person and you can only see the bad in people who you don’t like. The world is bigger than just Bridgeport. People from all over the Country go to NLC to learn what other are doing in their cities and towns to bring back info on things that might work in other town and cities. Maybe you didn’t go to conventions as a Firefighter. to brings new ideas back to our fire dept. Which could have made changes for the better.
Ernie, I don’t know why you are mad at me, I NEVER said that you shouldn’t go to NLC, Don and myself during our time with our regional organization we attended every meeting plus we were officers of the region, Don was the regional director and I was the corresponding secretary so it was our responsible to get any and all information that would help their department and city and to share it with them. We also attended our national convention and took the information that we got and shared with our entire region and also our chapter in Bridgeport.
Tom when you worked for the city council before my time. Just wondering when prior council people when to conventions I’m sure you did’t ask how much it cost. I don’t know why you got fired. But it sounds like sour grapes to me.
Ernie, Tom didn’t get fired, the powers to be eliminated his position because he was providing council members with intelligent guidance and understanding of issues before them. Understanding and knowledge were like kryptonite to the then CP and Mayor. They had to get rid of Tom before he made the Council smart and efficient.
Lisa, thanks for making that point clearer. Back then I respected Republican Tom White because of what you said Lisa, “because he was providing council members with intelligent guidance and understanding of issues before them. Understanding and knowledge were like kryptonite to the then CP and Mayor. They had to get rid of Tom before he made the Council smart and efficient,” but that was then and he’s now a another person with his bias comments.
Thanks, Lisa
Just saying Tom seems to be Mad at the city council because he’s always attacking US. Lisa I didn’t serve when Tom work for the city council.. He shouldn’t take it out on those who just got on the city council.
But Ernie, part of what Tom is saying revolves around questions that I raise quite regularly that are not answered in any fashion. Does that mean that CC does not like them because they do not understand them? Or does it mean that they are too difficult to get answers from City officials, but you don’t want to let that on to JML? Or does it mean that the questions are not understood, including the $$$$$SIGNS that have been part of annual questions on Moutinho driveway, lack of reporting on Port Authority even though City Finance department runs the numbers and has for years (and it looks like property was sold for millions less than the City had invested), In Plant Print shop with revenues that are not reported…..and budget transfers??? Lots of money comes from taxpayers. Lots of answers are owed to them too.
By the way years ago I was challenged on occasion because CC did not like the idea of being criticized. Well as a Democrat, Harry S. Truman said years ago, “If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.” By the way I do not like to raise critical questions, but at least some are due an answer. When you ask as often as I do, with only a couple members asking for dialogue, you know what it is to be disrespected. Let go of your personal feelings and sit down so that we can all cover ground critical to the City and then use it in wise oversight and legislation. Time will tell.
There you go again with your myopic opinions only this time you think you know where I worship on Sunday’s. I’m a disciple of Mt. Aery Baptist Church headed by the honorable Rev. Dr. Anthony L. Bennett.
If you know something about this man just say or quit your character assassination by innuendo. I’ve heard stories about you and your propensity with men in a not a to flattering light. You show me your proof and I’ll show you mine.
I have to wonder if “reverend” Stallworth is at all serious about his mayoral run. It wouldn’t be surprising if he threw his hat in the ring to clutter the field. The more candidates seek the nomination the more likely it is Little Joe Ganim will win. Maybe he and Stallworth kissed and made up.
Ernie, I made two post about replacing Joe Walsh that you must not have seen, they were both made this morning.

Ernie, again you open yourself to criticism based on taking about something that you know nothing about. You said to Ron, “Maybe you didn’t go to conventions as a Firefighter. to brings new ideas back to our fire dept.”
The fact is that we attended many conferences as firefighters and bought back to Bridgeport how to prepare young kids to be firefighters with study groups and that resulted in between 40/50 young Black and Latino youth becoming firefighters. We bought back testing knowledge and how to prepare our members to pass promotional exams that we utilized in helping our members pass these exams that resulted in over 30 Firebird Society members reaching elevated rank in the fire service from Engineer, Lieutenant & Captain.
We bought back how to get our own building which we utilized to get our building on Barnum Ave which puts us in very exclusive neighborhood being that, other than churches, there are no other Black organizations in Bridgeport with it’s own building. Again, we got that from attending conferences of the International Association of Black Professional Fire Fighters. Now let’s see what you bring back to Bridgeport to uplift the City and its residents and not just lip service. We’ll see if anything of consequence comes from your trip because we changed lives with our trips.
Don
My point is no one ever question him going to conferences i I know you got his back Don my point is you go to conference to bring new ideas that might work in your town or city. Just like the Clean-Slate Act which was past by the P.A Legislature and now CT is trying to past it. This is why people should always want to know what other cities and tows are doing.
All right my friends, get ready to witness a slick move, please don’t underestimate Joey G. It will take a while, run its course, then as Texiera would say “bam.” You all didn’t think Joey G. was rolling over because of an investigation that most likely will show no involvement on his part. Personally, I feel if that happens he still bears responsibility for what occurred under his watch, he snoozed and he knows it. However, politically this is a no brainer for him. Don’t construe my comments as an endorsement, just stating the facts and future.
I know, you’re just keeping it real.
SIS, Great observation
