Sparing No Expense, The Amp’s Subtleties Feature A Vomit Drain For Pukers

If you’ve had a little too much to drink and your tummy’s gurgling for a sink; don’t despair, nauseated nippers, the nuances of the Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater include a special drain for hurlers.

The brainchild of The Amp, Howard Saffan, is trying to cover all eventualities under the torchy 6,000-seat destination opening Wednesday night to rockers REO Speedwagon and Styx. To his way of thinking all that tasty food and drink may get messy. That’s why he’s installed special horizontal drains for the overindulgent in public bathrooms. When you visit the marbled lavs, you’ll understand.

And if the bile really builds, or you’re suffering from stage fright in crowded bathrooms, you can signal for staff help by touching an alert button on the wall.

Saffan and staff are putting the finishing touches on a facility accessed by car, rail and ferry. He fancies The Amp the ultimate entertainment experience for both fans and performers, as he notes in the video above covering a back-stage tour.

We’ve added the puke news as a spoiler alert for your visit.

  1. In ancient Rome the very wealthy hosted parties . Those that drank to excess enjoyed the luxury and stench of the vomitorium which was magnificently appointed.

  2. Place looks wonderful.Let’s hope this will be a catalyst for Bpt’s South End.Security is a major issue down there, does The Bpt police have the manpower to deal with events down there?.. Also,as far as people from Long Island coming over on the ferry, the last boat back is at 10:15,most of the concerts don’t end till later than that, hopefully that can be looked at,the ferry has potential to bring thousands of people into Bpt over time..

They have sold out one show so far. I wouldn’t worry about the crowds.
As far as the ferry goes, again I wouldn’t worry about leaving anyone behind. There won’t be anyone coming over.
It’s just hype. There is not a band in this line up that people are going to spend just as much time going to and from the show as at the show.
How many shows have you bought tickets for?

I was inNew Haven for dinner on Thursday.
The place was hoppin. Wooster Street was packed. People waiting in lines. Outside dining in tents bigger than anything Bridgeport has. Apartments going up all over the place.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for Bridgeport.

  5. 660 Peoples Bank employees in BRIDGEPORT are being laid off according to the CT Post.
The most telling line in the story was Mayor Joe Ganim was not immediately available for comment.
Joe was probably busy trying to get ahold of Carson to find out what was happening.

    1. Digital banks and cryptocurrencies are brutal competition for existing banks. It’s a combo few can overcome without draconian measures.
      That’s what’ happening, Bob.

  7. The new amphitheater looks just marvelous and I can’t wait to attend a show there. While it doesn’t look like I’ll be going this season because there isn’t one show that I would go outside of my house to see, I’m sure that there will be some and I’ll certainly attend. I wish this endeavor the best of luck because it’s certainly better than what we have.
