I believe if the Reagan era were to be examined in detail, with details concerning White House discussions and Kremlin discussions on that period’s arms race brought to light, we would find we came close to nuclear war as a result of the bellicosity/hyper-militaristic arms buildup (think “Star Wars”) of the Reagan Administration.
