How Many Times Have You Voted?

Okay, it’s Election Day and what a glorious day to vote.  Your choices for mayor are Democratic incumbent Bill Finch, Republican Rick Torres and petitioning candidate Jeff Kohut. Don’t forget the other citywide candidates for town clerk, city clerk and city sheriff, as well as the City Council candidates. We’ll shoot you some numbers as soon as they come in after the polls close at 8 p.m. Meanwhile if you hear of anything kooky, strange, weird, let us know.

From CT Secretary of the State Denise Merrill:

Secretary Merrill Updates Changes in Polling Locations in Advance of November 8th Municipal Elections

Secretary of the State: Polls Will be Open All Over Connecticut from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., Election Day Hotline With State Elections Enforcement Will be Activated

Hartford: Secretary of the State Denise Merrill announced that polls will be open in most Connecticut cities and towns tomorrow from 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. for the 2011 Municipal Elections. Secretary Merrill also distributed information on what municipalities have changed polling locations due to the aftermath of the devastating snowstorm on the weekend of October 29-30th which cut electric power to hundreds of thousands of Connecticut residents and turned some polling locations into emergency shelters. Secretary Merrill and the State Elections Enforcement Commission (SEEC) are once again opening the Election Day hotline 1-866-SEEC-INFO (1-866-733-2463) to report problems at the polls. In addition, the two agencies are providing an email alert contact–elections@ct.gov–for voters to use if they encounter any difficulties casting ballots on Primary Day. Both the hotline and the email alert will be checked throughout the day by staff from both agencies.

“Despite the difficulties of the last few days, I am very pleased to report that we are moving ahead with municipal elections tomorrow,” said Secretary Merrill, Connecticut’s chief elections officer. “I am very proud of how our Registrars of Voters and local officials have risen to this challenge, using creativity and resourcefulness to make sure voters can get to the polls tomorrow. There are some changes in polling locations in towns that were hit hard by the storm, and those will be posted online and hopefully through the media. We will also have our hotline operational and we encourage any voters encountering problems at the polls to give us a call, we will be there to help.”

Voters who do use the hotline or email to describe problems can either state their name or report issues anonymously; but are asked to state the town and polling place where they are observing the problems, and provide as many specifics or details as they can. This would greatly assist SEEC or Secretary of the State’s staff to address the issue and find a solution as expeditiously as possible. In addition to the email and telephone hotline, the Secretary of the State’s office and staff from the SEEC will hold three separate conference calls during the day on Tuesday to share information about potential problems or complaints at the polls, and coordinate the appropriate responses to those.

  1. Report from the field: At 9:00 250 people had voted at Black Rock School and the chocolate chip cookies being sold by the BR school parents were excellent.

  2. I just left from voting at Roosevelt School and I notice State Representative Eze Santiago two voting spots down from me speaking with a woman with whom he came in to vote. I told a person from the Connecticut Post who was taking photos and I pointed to him what was going on and that Santiago should not be there. The moderator came over to Santiago and asked him if he was a candidate and Santiago said no. I then told the moderator who he was and she told him he could not assist the woman. This happened at 3:50 p.m.

    1. What’s your point? Finch kicked butt citywide, get over it, he won by 71% of the vote. How sad for those of you who call themselves Democrats and were hell-bent and determined to support another party’s candidate, talk about vindictive, how did that work out for you?

      1. I am the ghost of Samuel Tedesco. In life I enriched my friends and upended honest representatives of the people using lies and deception. Now I am the undead, blogging from purgatory and calling out lies, deceptions and untruths.

I have two words for youm Godiva: LIEBERMAN and SHAYS.

How sad of you to be either so stupid, misguided or intentionally full of crap.

        1. Oh come on now–you aren’t the ghost of anyone, you are just you and Halloween is over. If you are “undead” then you’d be a vampire surviving by sucking the life blood out of whomever you chose to victimize. I’m not certain where you are going with the Lieberman/Shays comment and how it pertains to my comment. For the record–I am not stupid, misguided or intentionally full of crap, but you are entitled to your opinion, ridiculous as it may be. Simply put, undead or alive, you have to accept the fact Finch won handily.

  3. It surprises me really someone of your obvious intelligence, Godiva, would make a statement like that. Seriously? A true Democrat? I thought “democracy does not always work.” Is my mind playing tricks on me?

A true patriot votes for the greater GOOD, and stays away from hiding behind party kool-aid and party rules so they can assure themselves the absolution of “party line” mentality.

Finch is no true anything. He is your boss.

    1. So because you think it, that means it’s true? Think what you like. I can’t fathom how someone with your intelligence can’t grasp the fact there are actually people who like Finch who don’t work for him. Remember when Rick Torres was dethroned by his Republican party when he jumped ship to support Caruso? Why is it any different when a Democrat like yourself jumps ship to support a Republican because the person you chose to support lost the primary? You may criticize what I’m saying, but to me that was just sour grapes.
