Ganim Fundraising Cracks $500,000

One of the major questions about Joe Ganim’s comeback bid was his ability to raise money. He has answered that question by amassing more than $500,000 since he entered the race about six months ago.

“The support we have received is overwhelming,” said Ganim in a statement. “We have received thousands and thousands of donations from people across the city who are looking for a change. People have embraced my campaign from the start, and this proves just that.”

For the period covering October 1 through October 25, Ganim raised a little over $130,000, according to a news release issued by his campaign. As of October 25, Ganim had approximately $79,000 on hand.

When Ganim served as mayor from November 1991-April of 2003, he was a strong fundraiser. Last spring he hosted a fundraiser in the exploratory phase of his comeback at a packed Vazzano’s Four Seasons in Stratford that raised more than $50,000 with many contributors as walk-ups to the event.

Ganim relied on a team of volunteers to help him raise campaign cash. In campaigns strength builds strength. The fundraising helped to build Ganim’s relevance to win back his old job.

“When we called, people responded,” said Ganim. “If they were not able to make a monetary donation, they either provided in-kind contributions, or they volunteered their time and effort by making calls, answering the phone, and walking and talking to residents throughout the city. For us to raise this kind of money shows that people believe in us and what we stand for.”

In addition to campaign cash from his candidate committee, Ganim as the Democratic nominee is also benefiting from expenditures by the Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee.

    1. Steve. How long did it take your idol to raise that amount only to lose in what you said would be a landslide for him? Now you’re predicting a victory for Mary-Jane Finch. So glad to have you around for laughs, Nostradamus. Everything you speak about bites you in the rear. I give you credit for your continued persistence but you really should stay out of the prediction business. Since everything you predict is incorrect, do us a favor and continue to predict an MJF victory.

      1. Phantom, we are talking about Joe Ganim raising $500,000 from people in Trumbull Gardens. Get real!!! I am not discussing the obvious with an alias. It is dirty money! Only an idiot would believe otherwise. Get ready for your October surprise on the front page of the Connecticut Post. I do not any longer respond to alias bloggers. It bores the shit out of me. I couldn’t tell you about my candidate’s funds. It is not of interest to me. I deal with voters! I don’t deal with people I do not know. You ma’am would be one of them. Glad my predictions entertain you. Corruption is Corruption, you can sugarcoat a piece shit and to you it will taste delicious because to you Ganim’s shit don’t stink and you anonymous one are a real obsequious supporter.

  1. Man, Nov. 3rd can’t come fast enough. This city needs to get this damned election done so it can move on. There is a ton of work to do for whomever ends up the mayor and the bottom line is the whole city needs to unite and stop battling against each other. It’s OLD OLD OLD. The same shit now for what, 50 years? Bridgeport should be one of the great small cities in all the northeast, with all it has to work with (close to the city, the water, part of one of the richest counties in the nation).

  2. $500,000 we have to contribute to get this role model elected. Money just falling from the sky and Trumbull Gardens. Let’s see if some of those clergy are maxed out having a congregation of four people. Where oh where is the money coming from?

Side bar: the truth, does Mario Testa look extremely uncomfortable hanging out in black churches? It is embarrassing parading these people around in pictures to get votes. Funny they do not go to white churches or Hispanic. Actually NOT FUNNY AT ALL. I GIVE MARIO TESTA A LOT OF CREDIT. HOW SICK HE MUST FEEL!

  3. November 3rd, it’s time for the taxpayers of Bridgeport to speak out!
Stop the Foster, Stafstrom, Finch team from taxing the good people of this city again! Stop Foster from giving Finch’s buddies like John Stafstrom a tax break, Stafstrom received 18.7% tax break on his home under Bill Finch, did you?

    1. No $500,000 and he is with Testa, Mary McBride, Stallworth and Adams. Claude Balls, you talk about Stafstrom like he was Adam Wood or better yet, you talk like any voter knows him like they know Testa. Testa is equivalent to corruption and dirty politics in Bridgeport. Stafstrom is a lawyer with a prestigious law firm.

        1. Mario did nothing illegal. He is aligned with a historically corrupt politician. We are grateful Mario was not part of the Ganim group that went to jail. What would we do without Testo’s with its excellent food and bar? Personally, I have had only a few interactions with Mario Testa. I do know he is very well liked by all who have received Ganim’s appointments throughout the city as well as having many friends. This is politics. This is not a popularity contest. Mario Testa may in fact be my idol in two years. Personally, Mario has never ever been disrespectful to me. If I said he was, I would be lying!

  4. Mario told the Post he is going to “retire” next year. That’s bullshit, to use Andy Fardy’s favorite word. A man like Testa does not give up all that power.

    1. There will be a huge turnout sending a loud message. No to Joe and Testa. Or Joe will win and Bridgeport will become the Joke of the Country and it will not bother anyone who is the recipient of Ganim’s paybacks.

Most voters are not too bright. Let’s hope the smart educated and knowledgeable voters get off their asses and vote in record numbers.

      1. Late to the party again, Steve. Bridgeport is already a joke. It’s the highest-taxed city in the whole damned country. Thank your idol for that wonderful distinction.

  5. *** JOBS, JOBS, JOBS is the winning ticket for the Park City! Also, the time has come for whomever wins the Mayoral race to clean house in City Hall. New admin, new ideas, new rules for the Park City. ***

  6. The sad fact of business is there are people who will piss away a vote for Chris Taylor because he promised to give out laptop computers. A hundred years ago it was “forty acres and a mule.”
