City Council Approves Airport-related Settlement

The messy litigation road to Manny’s mansion has been settled by the City Council. From Brian Lockhart, CT Post:

“We have, potentially, blood on our hands if we do not act expeditiously … I know none of you want to go to the funerals of the next families who lose their loved ones in the most gruesome ways you can imagine. Let’s be serious. We have people’s lives in the palms of our hands.”

Those words were spoken by Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch Tuesday night as he urged members of the City Council to settle zoning litigation over a controversial $400,000 driveway needed for the city to move forward with runway safety work at Sikorsky Memorial Airport.

  1. Blood on our hands according to Mayor Finch, what a crock of shit. Talk about bullshit, where have the city and the government been all these years since the fatal accident?
It’s been 20 freakin’ years with no great push by the city or the Feds to make these safety upgrades and if memory serves the Feds forced the city to do what is now going to be done.
Now Merlin the Magician AKA Mark Anastasi sees there are no other alternatives to saving this valuable airport. What bullshit, the airport has been losing money for years so I ask what makes it so valuable? Could it be it is a good place to hide political friends who are given jobs?
Here is another gem from Merlin the city attorney. “If the timing had worked out, that would have been fortuitous to the city,” Anastasi told the Council. “Unfortunately it was fortuitous for someone else.” Mark, timing my ass, if your office had been doing its job and the airport commission was doing their job none of this shit would have happened.
To the three who voted No, I say thanks; to the 17, you are still clueless.

  2. When Bridgeport City Attorney Mark Anastasi informed city councilmen about the pending settlement, they were quick and wise to rethink their options. He knew how to think on his feet and make the best of a bad situation. He pontificated (we do that here, right?)–in a way no blogger couldn’t match.
Mr. Anastasi treated that meeting like a court case and put Bridgeport’s interests first.

  3. The city framed this argument cleverly, and did a good job. It seems like the framing caught council members off guard. Now does this mean the investigation into this issue now stops? Does anyone know, or is this issue now behind us? I also think the airport should be privatized.

  4. Bridgeport Airport is ideal for the smaller aircraft making global and domestic flights today. Dozens of flights a day, doesn’t that sound great? Ya gotta think of the future. Here’s why:

  5. “Blood on our hands … none of you want to go funerals”??? I couldn’t believe what I was reading yesterday, Finch is so desperate to try to end this fiasco, he stooped as low as this??? Shame on him and Anastasi for hatching up this plan to try and sway the council. Love the fact Mr. Torres called Anastasi out when he mentioned Ricci actually saved the town money having Moutinho do the work when he asked why Ricci got fired then. All in all, really disappointed the few members of the council who think on their own and not are simply rubber stamps to whatever Finch wants didn’t stick to their guns and hold Finch accountable for giving his longtime supporter a free driveway. Business as usual in Bridgeport, I guess.

  6. The “driveway” is well over $400k not including legal fees and shrubbery. Furthermore the reason is we have these extra costs is because of the shoddy work done by the City Attorney’s office. Not one peep from Lisa Trachtenberg?

Finch should be careful of how he doesn’t parse his words about John Ricci.

Anastasi once again is talking out of his ass when he says the airport will close if these improvements are not done. It will lose its FAA certificate but that does not mean it will close.

  7. This supports my view both Finch and Anastasi are both mutts. As far as Trachtenberg is concerned she must have been outside smoking and having her coffee on State Street during this mess. She would not say shit even if she had a mouth full.

  8. I wish one of those people would tell me what benefit the airport provides for Bridgeport. It serves as a parking lot for the wealthy to park their planes and that’s about it. Can you or I get a flight out of our airport? NO.
The airport is a money pit that keeps spending our tax dollars and in fact provides no services to the people of Bridgeport. To these dumb asses on the airport commission, do us all a favor and resign. For 20 years this commission sat on its hands when it came to safety now they are in a panic to get things done and money be damned.
Bill Finch, you should have your ass kicked for using the deaths of those eight people as a reason for this safety work to get done. You have been in office 5-plus years and not a peep about airport safety. Now you wave these deaths in our faces, Shame on YOU!!! Btw Bill, what caused the plane crash?
