When presidents lie, people die.
Career cops. Civilians. Innocents.
We are seeing what happens when a president lies to his rabid base support. They move with him, at his command, even by deftly coded words. Then it follows. Insurrection. Sedition. Destruction. Death.
This is like nourishing the serpent that devours you. Trump has fed the serpent lies. More will die.

This should not be a surprise to America, America got what it wanted, someone to make America great again. Maybe somebody can tell me when was America great so that we can go back to that time. “Central Park Five” case in 1989 where 5 black teengers were charged with assault, robbery, riot, rape, sexual abuse, attempted murder, but after another man was identified as the rapist in 2002, these five convictions were vacated, and the state withdrew all charges against the men. The five men sued the city for discrimination and emotional distress; the city settled in 2014 for $41 million. In 1989, 45 placed full-page advertisements in four New York City newspapers, including The New York Times, calling for the state to adopt the death penalty for killers. He made clear that he was voicing this opinion because of the rape and assault of Trisha Meili, a woman who had been jogging in Central Park. “I want to hate these murderers and I always will,” Mr. Trump wrote in the May 1989 ad. “I am not looking to psychoanalyze or understand them, I am looking to punish them.”
He wrote in all caps: “Bring back the death penalty and bring back our police!”

You are two of OIB’s most consistent reporters of critical facts and opinions in the public square, thank you for your regular participation in what I like to call “community dialogue” where subjects and issues that are less familiar to us can get presented, heard, QUESTIONED, and perhaps re-heard with a different listening so that the audience is better informed.
When a community is divided because there is agitation to create division beyond different appreciation of genuine facts and respectful opinion statements which may be a fair way of describing current times nationally, maybe we can more narrowly focus on what healing would look like locally in terms of either “right” or “left” or other descriptions of our Bridgeport populace.
What differences exist in our City or region on subjects of “good governance”, quality education and training in leadership positions, especially at the top levels, and best practices in all subjects bearing on serving citizens, especially with participation in oversight of civic activities that spend taxpayer funds.? Who will open the door to challenging the leadership on deck relative to accountability, an open book with annual employee reviews, and transparent presentation of information such that voters can see for themselves what is going on, rather than hearing: “But that is the way we have always done things?” Time will tell.
