From Mayor Finch:
More than 150 Bridgeport children are spending their summer at the City of Bridgeport’s Seaside Park Summer Camp, which provides Bridgeport children ages 5-14 with a fun and safe summer experience. The camp kicked off this week.
The camp is a five-week program conducted by the City’s Recreation Department, offering a well-supervised and organized summer camp experience for Bridgeport’s youth population. Daily activities include arts and crafts, athletics and swimming. Campers also participate in educational and environmental stewardship activities throughout the camp’s five weeks.
“We are committed to creating opportunities to keep our children active and engaged during the summer. Five weeks of fun and educational activities in our beautiful Seaside Park is a great way to spend a summer for the young people of Bridgeport,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “I am proud of our Recreation Department for their hard work in making the summer camp a success each year.”
Seaside Park Summer Camp runs Monday through Friday from July 9 to August 14. The camp day begins at 8:45 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. The camp has a staff of over 60 counselors. Nearly all of the staff members are Bridgeport residents.
Campers are given a T-shirt, along with breakfast, lunch, and a snack provided by the City’s Nutrition Center.
In addition to the daily activities, campers also will take part in a variety of field trips, including visits to Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, CoCo Key Water Resorts, the Ballpark at Harbor Yard and rides on the Port Jefferson Ferry.
The City offers the Seaside Summer Camp for a fee of $100 per child. The camp is at full capacity.
