Farmers Markets In The City

City’s Farmers Markets Program Kicks Off. Markets offering fresh fruit, produce open in Downtown, North End and East Side.

The City of Bridgeport with the support of Wholesome Wave, Downtown Special Services District (DSSD), St. Vincent’s Hospital and several other partners, is once again hosting Farmers Markets in various locations throughout the City, making fresh produce available to residents, workers and visitors this summer and fall.

“We are committed to finding ways to encourage Bridgeport residents to live a more sustainable, healthy lifestyle,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “The Farmers Markets expands access to fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables while supporting our local economy.”

The 2012 Farmers Markets kicked off in downtown on Thursday, July 5. The Downtown Farmers Market is located on Bank Street, adjacent to McLevy Green. The Downtown market will run each Thursday between now and October 25th. The market hours of operations are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The City also hosts Farmers Markets at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, 2800 Main Street on Tuesdays from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and at the City of Bridgeport’s Department of Health and Social Services, 752 East Main Street on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Farm Stand at St. Vincent’s Medical Center

When: Tuesdays 12 noon to 4 p.m., July through end of October

Where: 2800 Main Street, Bridgeport

Incentives Doubled: SNAP, WIC and FMNP doubled up to $10 per visit. Good for fruits and vegetables only while supplies last.

East Side Farm Stand

When: Wednesdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., July through end of October

Where: 752 E. Main Street, Bridgeport

Incentives Doubled: SNAP, WIC and FMNP doubled up to $10 per visit. Good for fruits and vegetables only while supplies last.

Now in its fourth year, the East Side Farm Stand in Bridgeport is operated by Wholesome Wave, in conjunction with the Bridgeport Department of Social Services.

Downtown Farmer’s Market

When: Thursday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., July through end of October

Where: Bank Street at McLevy Green

Who: Bridgeport Downtown Special Services District

  1. Thanks for the update, Lennie. I always look forward to the fresh veggies and fruit at these farmers’ markets. Nothing like fresh-picked sweet corn.
