Surpassing the halfway mark of the special Democratic mayoral primary turnout is low as expected by campaign operatives given the winter vote with light rain in the afternoon, but not as low as anticipated.
Many city precincts will hit and surpass the walk-in turnout of the September vote.
Roughly 8,000 Democrats among approximately 40,000 eligible voted in September, more than 2,000 via absentee.
The mail-in returns will be near 2,000 for today’s redo and based on the prior two elections between Mayor Joe Ganim and opponent John Gomes should lean heavily to Ganim so that places a premium on Gomes running up the walk-in vote.
Gomes, based on the prior two votes, will perform best in Black Rock, West Side and North End while Ganim measures up on the East Side and East End.
Black Rock @ 1: 29 pm 320 voted.
