Republican Town Chairman John Slater is urging attendance at the “Stop the Tax” rally scheduled for Saturday, 1:30 p.m. in front of the City Hall Annex, 999 Broad Street. The City Council will vote on Mayor Bill Finch’s proposed budget Monday evening. From Slater:
Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to voice their frustration regarding Mayor Finch’s proposed tax increase. Collectively, we need to urge our City Council representatives to be brave and “Vote No” on this unaffordable proposal.
If you have not yet signed the petition, please do so by visiting www.stopthetaxincreases.com. Please continue to contact your City Council representatives (contact information found on the web site) and tell them that the taxpayers of Bridgeport cannot afford another tax!
I also encourage everyone to share this information on Facebook and Twitter as well as to continue to encourage family, friends and neighbors to do the same.
This rally is open to everyone and everyone is needed!

Great article, John. I’d like to see a similar article for commercial rental. I can imagine the cost, especially if business doesn’t go well. If my landlord’s taxes go up $35 per month according to Finch’s figure, my landlord–via the property manager–may raise my rent $50 a month (I Live in a three-family house) per unit, put money in his pocket and let the mayor take all the heat. How about some real rent control?

Here’s a thought … what would a 7% tax increase mean to Testo’s Restaurant? Wonder where Mario stands in all of this and if anyone is listening to him anymore.
This is going to die of apathy, like everything else in Bridgeport.
