‘Sassy And Classy’ – Meet Island Girl Daphne Reid, 103 Years Young

Last weekend, Mayor Joe Ganim presented milestone proclamation to Daphne Reid.

For the past several years News 12’s Frank Recchia has visited 103-year-old Daphne Reid, a self-described “sassy” who never goes out without dancing shoes.

Born in St. Thomas, Jamaica in 1921, she celebrated her birthday the other day with a visit from Mayor Joe Ganim who writes on his Facebook page:

Over the weekend, I had the privilege of celebrating a monumental milestone – the 103rd birthday of Daphne Adassa Bowen-Reid 🎉.Daphne’s resilience, wisdom, and spirit are a true testament to the rich history and strength within our city. Her journey through 103 years of change and challenge inspires us all. Wishing Daphne a birthday filled with joy, love, and the warmth of the community she has so profoundly impacted. Here’s to many more, Daphne!

From News 12 report in 2023:

She came to the U.S. as a young woman in search of a better life, which she says she definitely found. She raised four kids who all went into public service.

She says the important thing in life is to never stress yourself out.

Reid’s secret to longevity is “avoid cigarettes and booze” and never go anywhere without your dancing shoes.
