Republican David Herz Says He Will Be On Feb. 27 Mayoral Ballot

Depending how the redo Democratic primary shakes out on January 23, Republican David Herz declares “I will stand for election on February 27.”

Lawyers for both Mayor Joe Ganim and John Gomes contend if Ganim wins the redo there’s no reason for another general election that went Ganim’s way in November. They also agree if Gomes wins the second primary he becomes the standard bearer Democrat and another general election must go forward if other candidates have also qualified for the ballot.

Ganim has the option to accept a line on the New Movement Party line should he lose the redo.

The Office of the Connecticut Secretary of the State, however, declares another general should take place no matter what, so there’s a bit of a rub here.

Herz kicked out the following statement centered on his interests in the middle east and his local candidacy.

As you all know, I have strong ties to Israel. Regarding the local coverage of the events in Gaza and Israel, I recently wrote a short thought on Bias in the Byline at

https://davidherz.org/thoughts/bias-byline

About a week ago, I met a former AP reporter whose experience is that most news editors and bureau chiefs bend over backwards to be objective.

I am  incensed just about every time I open the Connecticut Post and see another byline somewhere in Gaza taking a very particular slant of the current conflict.

Rather than rage into an echo chamber, I would like to talk to the news editors and bureau chiefs who make the editorial choices on this reportage, the proposed topic: The Ethics of Telling Only Part of the Story, or telling it only through the eyes of the necessarily compromised reporter.

I know you cover local. I hope you would be so kind as to introduce me to the editors/bureau chiefs in your address book so I can arrange a conversation, for public consumption, on this topic.

Obviously, we still have an election around the corner, and I will stand for election on February 27 if the Democrats don’t decide to end things after their primary.

I am of course available for comment on our local race, but with a son in Gaza, other conversations also deserve my attention.

  1. Teh key word is “should”. “Must” would have been more definitive.

Considing they, the state, limited the new primary to just G2 and Gomes, with no voice of objection. If an election is deemed improper a new election will take place. Then it “should have” been as any other election process and allowed others to participate, Moore/Danial or others if they wished. JS

PS Does anyone find it susceptive that the SEEC left an open criminal complaint on Wanda from the last election four years ago against Moore that a judge deemed was warranted, (I believe) when Holier -than- thou 20000 shades of ballots, now the savior of Port’s hotel industry or lack of, who’s new taste the movement is a fresh of breath air for prophet? 🙂

P.S Lennie, we have to define “Bias” considering how 2000 shades of ballots, treated/supported Moore this go around for Gomes.

The air inside Testo’s was like a call into a casket. Hello, anyone in there?

As the night progressed, despite Ganim being down by a few hundred votes, Gomes did not despair.

“We will win,” Gomes said. “We have it covered.”

His reference was to absentee ballots.

    1. A suit was presented. A judge listened to sworn testimony from parties called to testify. And a decision was reached apparently to provide a do-over of the Democratic primary on January 23, and as night follows day, another General Election on February 27.

No problem with the January 24 event as the DTC September election had only two candidates running, Ganim and Gomes.

And who knows who the February Democrats will lead with on Line A but other folks who have not foreclosed their right to run again can be on the ballot as well. I count on Grimaldi for the political story there. SEEC pursuit will never be fast enough, and are consequences forthcoming to shape future events?

How about David Herz’s dissatisfaction with the CT Post, down in circulation, down in actual readership, and decreased staffing with newer writers taking on wide subject and geographic assignments? Perhaps we are closing in on CT having fewer than a handful of dailies? Are we there now? Where will we find the TRUTH which is a part of Herz mideast experience in recent years?

I hope that his family continues in safety to deal with challenges of living. And I wish him well in his personal path to raise an alternative party with a set of principles and policies known far and wide that serve the voting public in Bridgeport. The Republican Party, with a major proud history from Lincoln forward, has a space in Bridgeport to claim, loudly and proudly, if they can and so choose. Time will tell.

      1. Fair enough John, but arguments can be made from both angles. Considering if they are keeping the status quo of the new primary with the old ends and it ends with the same results. Why would there be a need for a new general election?
