Pereira’s Election Day Assault Charge Dropped

 State prosecutors have dropped their assault case against City Councilwoman Maria Pereira.

Pereira, a councilwoman for the 138th District, was arrested outside the John F. Kennedy School polling place on Election Day and charged with third-degree assault.

Prosecutors on Thursday nolled the case.

Pereira’s lawyer, Robert Frost, confirmed the case had been nolled, but declined further comment. Samia Suliman, Pereira’s political opponent in the election, was also arrested at the time and charged with breach of peace. Her case was previously nolled.
