Warren Harding High School is a relevant part of Bridgeport’s history. I graduated in 1985 and still carry my Harding Pride. Blue & Gold inspires me to this very day.

The most iconic Bridgeport graduates are from Warren Harding High School. Geraldine Johnson, Wes Mathews, Charles Smith, John Bagley, the New Haven Superintendent, Carol Birks, etc.

The name must remain Warren Harding High School. I have already contacted the alumni association to start organizing against the name change.

This was initiated by none other than carpetbagger Dennis Bradley.

  2. Lennie, Have the polls closed? I can’t seem to vote. Are AB’s about to be added to flip the current support for keeping the Harding name?

  3. I have not voted because, as someone who did not attend Harding High, do I have a legitimate claim? If a decision to change the name is made then, as a lifelong resident taxpayer, I’d like to voice my opinion on a new name.

  4. Barack Hussein Obama II served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017, he was the 44th president of the United States, and the first African American to serve in the office.

In high school Barack excelled in basketball and graduated with academic honors in 1979. After high school, Obama studied at Occidental College in Los Angeles for two years. He then transferred to Columbia University in New York City, graduating in 1983 with a degree in political science. Next he graduated Harvard Law School 1991 and became an attorney.

More importantly Obama gave millions of blacks in America a tremendous sense of pride, dignity and hope. That pride will carry on with the gold and blue Presidents at the new high school named after Obama. These students will know their school was named after someone who looks like them. The football field was call Hedges Stadium, why? Time moves on and naming the high school after President Obama, the 44th President of America shows hope for all students no matter what race or color.

      1. Gary, what’s your point? 72.4 are people of color, plus Warren G. Harding was President March 4, 1921 – August 2, 1923 and

I’m wonder how much Warren G. Harding inspires students no matter what race compared to Barack Obama?

    1. We already have 4 black named schools 2 Hispanic & 4 white and we have a number of generic named schools. We have had Harding High forever and it has a lot of history behind the name. Obama has done nothing to have this school named after him.As time goes on and documents get released we are actually seeing what a bad presidency he had. I will mention 2 incidents Benghazi where our ambassador and a few Marines were killed when the SS and president refused to send in reinforcements. Lets look at Obama and his attorney general who allowed 100’s of automatic rifles to get into the hands of gangsters and gang bangers so that they could follow their path of travel. Well one border patrol guy was killed with one of these weapons and more than half the guns put out their by Obama and his AG were never found

      1. The top reason for President Obama’s name to be never put on a school, ***COMMON CORE***. Not to mention the path Pres. Obama took to implement this national education disaster.

          1. There’s a lot of hash being slung at Barack Obama. Your hero Dinld Trump has baggage of his own. So does Warren G. Harding, the nmrsake of the high school in question.

  5. *** Pres. Harding was a “drunk” and womeniser that the party didn’t want but got stuck with, if your going to throw stones as to who did what! Its obvious that most of the voters that want the school name to remain the same either went to Harding, or are whites that feel that there have been enough schools and or goverment buildings named after people of color, etc.. so since their keeping count, lets keep it the same. After all History stands still & does not change in the eyes of scholars, no? *** Maybe Trump High might be appealing for some since he’s re-writing history on how to be a real U.S President, no??? *** I went to Bassick High myself so its really a matter of personal opinion to those who will have sleepless nights over the new schools name, no??? ***

  6. *** Its obvious by some of the usual (race related) OIB subjects in the past, (directly or indirectly) that some bloggers would be happier if the school was re-named, Jim Crow High instead of leaving it the same! ***JUST SAYING***

  7. Warren Harding’s administration was one of the most scandal plagued in history, Teapot Dome and the VA being only the most obvious. Harding also had a wandering little head, cheated on his wife with a number of young women.

    Republicans…
