Oh Ratz! This Way To The John

John Ratzenberger
Discover John Ratzenberger on Saturday.

Bridgeport native John Ratzenberger, the bar know-it-all from Cheers and host of Made In America, will serve as celebrity judge for the Regional 2012 Rube Goldberg Machine Competition for High School Teams on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Discovery Museum, 4450 Park Avenue.

If you spend enough time with Ratz you’ll never be the same. He bleeds Bridgeport. He also has a twisted perspective on life. This is, after all, a guy who fished for rats in the Seaside Park dump when he was a kid. And you wonder why we call him Ratz.

Students from Kolbe Cathedral High School will compete against eight other regional high schools in an engineering challenge to “Build a machine that takes at least 20 steps to inflate and deflate a balloon.” Rube Goldberg would be proud.

Admission is included with regular admission. Free to members. For more check out www.Discoverymuseum.org

  1. Ratz is lucky I didn’t catch him fishing for rats at the Seaside Dump. I got lots of calls about him.
Gee, he could have fished for bicycle parts like me and rode the bike to the Brooklawn area in search of apples, pears, and plums. Lennie, don’t tell me he used to make Ratz Burger with them.
