Connecticut’s Working Families Party has endorsed State Senate candidate Marilyn Moore in her August 12 primary to unseat Democratic incumbent Anthony Musto. If she wins the Democratic primary Moore will appear on the WFP line in the general election facing Trumbull Republican Town Councilman Rick Costantini.
“Marilyn has long been committed to ensuring that the people of Bridgeport have a voice, and we are proud to support her,” says Lindsay Farrell, executive director of the Connecticut Working Families Party, in a news release. “Marilyn was a big part of the effort to elect Bridgeport Board of Education members who would listen to the community and defend the city’s public schools. I know Marilyn will make an outstanding state senator.”
The WFP says each year the organization takes a close look at every candidate, Democratic, Republican and independent and endorses “the one who will most effectively build political power for working and middle class families and the unemployed. Candidates on the Working Families line are champions on issues like raising the minimum wage, addressing the growing retirement crisis, and solving the massive problem of student debt.”
“I am excited to receive the support of the Working Families Party,” says Moore in the WFP news release. “They share my values, and commitment to creating stronger and empowered communities. I look forward to working with them at the State Capitol.”
The WFP has become a force in city school board races. Board of Education Chairman Sauda Baraka has twice run on the WFP line. Musto has appeared on the WFP line in his three previous runs for State Senate. If he wins the primary he theoretically could end up on the line again if the WFP endorses for the general election.
Connecticut’s 22nd State Senate District covers Trumbull and portions of Bridgeport and Monroe.
And the momentum builds … or does it?
Ask Dan Malloy how important this can be.
You ask Dan Malloy how important this can be! 🙂
So who is endorsing Anthony Musto? Other than myself.
Steve, Musto has union support and a number of high-profile pols supporting him such as the mayor and City Council President Tom McCarthy, but his campaign has not sent OIB any releases or endorsements. I will run them if they send them.
Lennie, I would like you to look at Enrico Costantini, the Republican candidate. He actually has a very moderate platform. His stand on Education looks like It was written by Maria Pereira. That is a compliment. The Republicans do such a poor job promoting their candidates. This gentleman could give the Democrats Anthony or Marilyn a run for their money if anyone knew who he was or made an effort to find out.
Steve, Costantini is a regular OIB reader so I expect we will be hearing from him. I’ve met him several times. He lived in the North End for many years and his family is from Bridgeport. We will give him plenty of play.
Really, I am definitely interested in reading about his platform. How can I access it?
Steve, Jesus Christ, no, I mean Moses could run as a Republican in Bridgeport and could not get elected.
Tom, Len Paoletta and Mary Moran got elected. True Democrats generally lose elections as opposed to Republicans win an election. The party makes no effort to improve their platform or be inclusive. People voting generally look at the national party platform and then tune out before they even listen to a candidate.
So Steve, would you agree with this statement? No Moore for Musto!
I most certainly do not agree with that statement.
But why? What has he done? NOTHING. He has NOTHING to do with Steel Pointe. That was Andres. All he does is take credit for the work of other legislators. Not getting it.
I guess he needs to get his message out, Mustang. I am sure if he wants to win, he will. So far the biggest problem people have with him is voting against the Hennessy Bill. I have learned many things in politics over the past 25 years when I was a total neophyte. The one thing that will stay with me forever is YOU CANNOT PLEASE ALL OF THE PEOPLE ALL OF THE TIME. If you remember that and don’t try, you will make fewer promises that you have to backpedal. The Hennessy Bill, not that important to me. Economic Development, Remington Woods, Seaview Ave Corridor, Downtown, and a decent gateway to Trumbull.
I am certain jobs jobs jobs is a huge priority for Musto and if the unions are supporting him, they must be anticipating the future development projects I am talking about. We are talking 1000s of construction, electricians, engineers, infrastructure etc. etc. etc. That is my agenda. That will give Bridgeporters relief down the road. We have to look at the bigger picture and we need a cohesive group going to Hartford, a team. Not a group of anti-Finch mavericks looking to be an obstacle to the crowning glory of our city.
Why isn’t anyone talking about Scott Hughes and Andres Ayala? That is a race I am watching very closely.
Mustang, mean about Musto? Not me.
Mustang, one day you and I will sit down and I’ll explain it to you. Would have been nice working together but I am trusting my gut and what I have to say would be too mean to post on so many levels.
Really? Why would a factual conversation about why your choice is Musto have to be mean? There is no need for that. I have not been mean to you. 🙂
Mustang Sally, Steven Auerbach has such a dislike for Marilyn Moore, there NOTHING she can do to change his mind and that’s okay because he’s just one vote. He has some idea she is against that great job-making, money-making Steele Point. Steele Point …
Steven Auerbach, right now it looks like you’re the only with your fair-minded independent I’ll give both candidates a chance.
Ron, my whole life, I have stood alone.
Steven Auerbach, all that’s good but are you a man of your word? You said you would be open to both Musto and Moore but you have NOT.
Ron, I will listen to both. I have offered to put a Musto sign on my lawn. I am not anti-Musto and just because 78 percent of Mary-Jane Foster’s supporters from her campaign are on Moore’s team does not mean I am a follower. I voted for Musto last time and so far there is zero reason I mean zero for me to vote differently. I however am a man of my word and nobody owns my vote, but seriously Ron, once I decide, I am the guy who is determined to see my candidate win. That includes Bill Finch. There is not one person other than myself I would support replacing him at this stage of the game, but that too is not in stone because I am not the recipient of any benefits one way or another and neither are most of the people I know. The people I do know personally who are recipients of patronage are people who are doing a fine job. That does not mean there is not a shitload of losers who need to go. We have time to evaluate Bill Finch and downtown Marina Village Replacement housing.
Steven Auerbach, have you ever had any dealings with Mayor Finch?
Anyhow I will be voting Republican no matter who wins this race. Might vote for Moore though in the primary.
donj,
I will be sure to let Marilyn know. I am sure it will make her happy.
When is the first DEBATE???
Can someone tell me how many voters in Bridgeport are registered with the Working Families party?
Godiva2011, fewer than ten.
Ten? That’s not saying much; why do they even bother to call themselves a party?
The WFP encourages supporters NOT to enroll as a WFP voter. It would disqualify them from participating in a primary. In other words, you have less voting rights than those enrolled in a major party.
The number of registered WFP voters is irrelevant. The numbers come from Dems who vote on the WFP line.
Enough to control the Bridgeport Board of Ed. That’s how many!!!
Steve I believe former Officer David Daniels is planning a run for Mayor. I for one would love to see him join the race.
Officer Daniels is a fine man. Half the youth he has worked with are now voters and he would make a formidable candidate. We are talking about the former D.A.R.E., yes? I do not see him as a 21st-century candidate for a city on the verge of major development. I do not think there is anything he could say that would make anyone believe he does.
Steve, I do not know Dave Daniels very well, however I think you should know he set up a Facebook page last week that simply stated “Should I run for mayor?” He received almost 600 Likes in less than 48 hours. To put that in perspective, Andre Baker, Dave Hennessey and Howard Gardner had a Facebook page up for over 10 weeks and it only received 275 Likes. The WFP slate made up of Sauda Baraka, Eric Alicea and Andre Baker had a Facebook page up for 6 weeks before their election and received 481 Likes.
Steve, he set up the page on June 15, 2014 and as of right now it has 671 Likes.
IS THERE A DEBATE SCHEDULED FOR AYALA AND HUGHES?
Musto and Moore?
Without a debate, as it stands now I vote Musto and support Hughes. nd yes Steve, it is the same Officer Daniels from the D.A.R.E. program. In my opinion he would be exactly what we need, honorable, truthful and with a clear vision for the city WE all love.
Okay, I always liked Officer Daniels. I know the kids loved him.
