Mayor Bill Finch has named Tax Collector Anne Kelly-Lenz acting finance director following the departure of Dawn Norton who became chief financial officer of New Canaan. Veronica Jones has been appointed acting tax collector. Details from the mayor:

Mayor Bill Finch today named Tax Collector Anne Kelly-Lenz as Acting Finance Director to temporarily fill the position recently vacated by Dawn Norton. He also named Deputy Tax Collector Veronica Jones to the post of Acting Tax Collector.

Kelly-Lenz has worked for the City of Bridgeport for the past 6-plus years, first as Treasurer and Acting Tax Collector, then as Tax Collector for the past four years. She also served as Acting Treasurer from 2008-2010.

Prior to her work in Bridgeport, she was the Treasurer in the Town of Stratford for one year. Before coming to work in a municipality, Kelly-Lenz worked in the private sector as an accounting manager for Long Term Capital Management and JWM Partners, both hedge funds located in Greenwich. She earned her bachelor of science in finance and a master’s degree in education both from Sacred Heart University. She is a certified Tax Collector in the state of Connecticut.

Jones has been employed by the City for 18 years, serving as a cashier, accounting clerk and brief stint as a Tax Assessment Clerk. She became the Acting Deputy Tax Collector on 2009, and in February 2012 she became the Deputy Tax Collector. She holds an associate’s degree from Housatonic Community College and will be taking the Certified Connecticut Municipal Collector test in June.

“Anne and Veronica are both very experienced, hard-working and bring a great deal of integrity to their positions. I am very appreciative of their willingness to step in during this transition time,” said Mayor Finch.

Both positions become effective Monday, May 14.
