Gaston To School Bus Law Breakers: Driving Is A Privilege, Not A Right

State Senator Herron Gaston, chair of the Public Safety And Security Committee, is shepherding a bill that would crack down on drivers illegally passing school buses after Bridgeport’s school bus camera safety program revealed about 10,000 drivers ignored protocol while students were being picked up or dropped off during a six-month period.

“If you’re going to drive, which is a privilege, we need to make sure we’re following the law and looking at this as a privilege as opposed to a right,” said Gaston.

Gaston appeared on NBC Connecticut’s Face The Facts to discuss the legislation.

  1. Fair enough, Eye candy. 🙃

Sure you are lowering the fine because it is a guaranteed catch, like fishing with dynamite. However, are any self-regards in place for the insurance industry from jacking the premiums on the car owners especially if they are not driving the car for low-level, slow-moving, moving violations like passing a bue with its lights on?

P.S. If diving is a privilege is health care a privilege?

Safety for youths getting on or off a school bus? 10,000 data points in a six month time period? Did it not take far fewer pictures of ballot stuffing to stimulate outrage? Perhaps we need to “see something, in order to say something?”
A yellow (school) bus stopped on a street by the curb can be seen from a distance. Sometimes I note that lights are blinking, but the sign is not out warning the public as in the past? Have rules changed, bus drivers gotten lazy, or perhaps I have not gotten the last word on the law, but I am careful as I do not wish injury to anyone who believes they are in a “safe zone” and I do respect the right to drive. Let’s see what changes when the legislature votes on a bill. Time will tell.

  3. Stimulated outrage swings both ways considering Joe bested Gomes after the fact. Not to mention that ballot stuffing was on behave of team Gomes. 🙂

John considering you have been saying a lot, what have you seen? 🤣

Can you not see this as a tax on black and brown people? Not to it mention the fine/tax they will seen on there insurance premium for 3 to 5 years.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for the safety and well-being of the children. Strangely I have occasionally passed a bus with its stop sign out, though not intentionally, The Busse stopped suddenly and drivers’ reactions can vary. Many of these buses stop at a corner and if you are taking a turn you don’t see that they have their stop sign out until you are up on it.

Without a doubt, buses can be better equipped to assist in making sure drivers stop for the safety of it ” Cargo” Similar to the yellow arm that swings out to prevent the bus driver from running over. Perhaps a yellow arm that swings out into the street to prevent the driver from passing.

    Right or privilege John? 🙂

PS When has ever the street been considered a “safety zone?

Did I hear that right, Cargo, like luggage? 🙂
