Finch To Lead New York State Thruway Authority

From Neil Vigdor, CT Post:

Finch will serve as the agency’s acting executive director until he is confirmed by the state Senate or 60 days passes, which is when the interim tag would be removed from his job title.

Known more for his “green” mantra as mayor of Connecticut’s largest city, Finch takes over a thruway network that extends from the Pennsylvania border to Bronx, N.Y.

“I like to think of it as a long city,” Finch told the agency’s board of directors Monday in Albany, N.Y. “Millons and millions of people get to work, they get to vacation and they get to see this beautiful state, New York.”

  1. Best of Luck to Bill Finch. Apparently New York State has a different opinion of him compared to many of the OIB commentators over the years. Of course, we improved our lot with the election of Joe Ganim.

    1. Actually, it’s a big step up in overall job responsibility. Losing the primary may actually have been the best thing that happened to Bill Finch.

      1. There’s a reason for everything, Frank. I’m sure the quality of his life will prove to be better. There’s something about taking that seat, I’ve seen it happen (counting G2) six times. No one seems to leave better than when they came in. That’s why I dodged a bullet when I gave up the position of Council President just in time. I would have CP when Joe left and I know that would have been one of the worst situations I could ever ask for. It’s so much better being second banana, you know all, you see all, but the big man makes the decisions and has to live with them.

  2. Isn’t it more important for Bill to know where others are working? For instance, Bridgeport’s three Wise Men, Wood, Nunn and Sherwood. Will one or more of them join Bill on the road???
Spoke with Bridgeport educator, former State Senator and DMV Commissioner Ayala recently. Another local legislator who found himself in an executive position being demonized by the goblins in a modernized information system that needed more time and tweaks. At least he has a place of some type in the school system instead of being left as “roadkill.” Good luck, Bill. Don’t mess with the EZ-Pass system, please. Time will tell.

  3. What is the most likely end result of this?
    A) The bridge will never be completed and Finch will tell Cuomo he has the similar situation in B’port and they left the bridge in the up position.
    B) The bridge will be completed but not line up correctly. Finch will tell Cuomo for another $100 million the engineers say they can fix it and he has a former budget director from B’port who can overbill EZ Pass to hide the cost overruns.
    C) He’ll be gone long before the bridge is supposed to be completed and he will blame everything on the guy who came before him or the guy who came after him.
    D) All of the above.

    1. Bubba, be gracious. You don’t know what’s ahead for us. Someday you may find yourself saying, “I wish Finch were still here.” LOL. That’s for you getting me with the text I sent to you Saturday night. You get me all the time.

    2. Even if you used the 26 letters of the alphabet, you’ll still have more reasons to offer for a likely ending. Because it will be a typical Finch ending.
      You got that right, Bob.

  5. “New York Thruway, getting better every day.” If the powers that be think Bill is the best man for this job, makes me wonder who in hell the other people in the running were. This won’t end well, I give it less than a year.

  6. This is even more incredible than Trump being a serious contender for President. Although it seems related, it is such corruption within the Democratic Party that is driving voters toward Trump and away from Hillary. I’m glad I supported Bernie but not too happy with his being railroaded by this corrupt system.

  7. Bill would make a great urban park ranger, among a handful of other appropriate nature-related vocations that conform to his skill set. It just doesn’t seem he is a good fit, in any pragmatic context, to be Director of the New York Thruway System(!). This would seem to be among the most inappropriate uses of Bill Finch’s skill set that is possible. This is Twilight Zone stuff!

This could wind up bringing down the Cuomo Administration. Incredible! (The Peter Principle is apparently all about politicians.)

I’ll definitely be taking the train for my NY excursions.
