Finance Committee Expected To Vote On Budget Saturday, Full City Council Monday

The Budget & Appropriations Committee will convene Saturday morning at 10 to vote on alterations to Mayor Joe Ganim’s nearly $600 million spending plan for the budget year starting July 1 that includes revaluation of taxable property required every five years by state law.

What’s likely to happen? The council adding a couple million dollars to the school district flat-funded in Ganim’s plan while inching the tax rate reduction closer to 11 mils.

Most homeowners, according to city bean counters, will experience a cut or steady tax rate with some increases depending on the assessment values.

If the finance committee completes its work Saturday, the budget will advance to the full City Council for an expected vote Monday night.

  1. *** As past Bpt. city budgets have come & gone in the last 10-yrs. Its bound to be another “automatic” rubber-stamp vote by the budget’s committee & later the entire city council. ***
