EarthFest Comes Alive

The public is invited to attend the first annual Bridgeport EarthFest on Thursday, April 21–the day before Earth Day. This collaborative celebration of Earth Day has been organized by The Kennedy Center’s Maggie Daly Arts Coop (MDAC) and The Bijou Theatre, as the recipients of the Regional Initiative Grant. Additional sponsors include: People’s United Bank, Pullman & Comley, LLC; Koskoff Koskoff & Bieder, PC; and Green and Gross, PC and Downtown Special Services District.

Enjoy a variety of free activities between 10:00 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. throughout Downtown Bridgeport. From 10:00 to 12:00 come get your hands dirty with Recycled Arts and Crafts at MDAC (1042 Broad St., entrance on John St.). While you’re there, check out Tossed&Found, a Recycled Art Exhibit by over 10 of the Kennedy Center’s Community Experience Programs.

From 12 to 2 p.m., McLevy Green will come to life with a wonderful line up including: Tai Chi with Bridgeport’s own Jonathan Davis, a Drum Circle hosted by Steve Scales (former member of The Talking Heads), and a Story Telling Performance by The Sierra Club. In addition, the Green will be buzzing with the presence of several wonderful Bridgeport establishments such as The Bridgeport Public Library, Our Woven Community, Cook & Grow, and Green Village.

Grab a bite to eat from Bones in a Barrel or Taco Loco, who will have their Food Trucks parked curbside.

Next, embark on a short journey around the Green to view the EarthFest Recycled Art Juried Exhibit. Grab a map and go for a walk! The winner of the exhibit will be announced that evening at The Bijou and receive a $1,000 prize.
At 4 p.m., The Bijou Theatre will open its doors for a reception of MDAC Artist’s Earth Day Exhibit. Friends, family, and art lovers can enjoy light refreshments, and music, while viewing the unique creations of the Maggie Daly Arts Cooperative. At 6 p.m. the winners of the Juried Art Exhibit will be announced, and from 6:30-7:30 p.m. we’ll wrap up the day with live music from some of Bridgeport’s finest local musicians.
