The word documentary implies objectivity. City Wars has no objectivity. Why OIB is billing City Wars as an objective, unbiased effort to chronicle this year’s mayoral race is beyond me.
Salty, since when do documentaries imply objectivity? I’m certain, however, if you want to be interviewed for this series on behalf of your candidate, the producer will accommodate you. If you want me to help set that up I will do that. Just let me know.

I am with you on this one, John. A documentary film is a nonfictional motion picture intended to document some aspect of reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction or maintaining a historical record.

If you are a Ganim supporter this video is excellent. Joe appears extremely empathetic as Bill is portrayed as insensitive. I think the Mayor needs to filter some of his talking points. Overall, the only disturbing part of this video was watching Tom Lyons. From a Ganim perspective it was excellent. He seemed sincere. I am not sure where this is being shown but I will say this. It was so fucking depressing. The Mayor now needs to come up with social activities for Trumbull Gardens? Maybe a swimming pool? A few tennis courts? Of course this is a Joe Ganim propaganda film and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Ganim is running an aggressive campaign. He is being seen where he needs to be seen. He has a story to tell and a story he would rather forget. Finch has a campaign spokesperson who makes the Mayor look silly. In the end people will vote for the individual who has a vision for the city and can show by example. I think the redemption story is a great story. We forgive Joe, that is his redemption. The keys to the kingdom. Well that will be up to the voters. I know many people working on Joe’s campaign. I think maybe five are genuinely enamored with him and 10 are specifically looking for a position. Either way, it is politics and the facts are the facts. I still say this election is going to be a sleeper.
The film was well done. Its intent was to promote Joe in this episode primarily to the minority community and to that point I think it was well done.
Finch has money and can certainly create a video to promote Bridgeport’s future without saying one negative word about any of his running mates. It just isn’t necessary until early August. 🙂
Finch is spending money on biased reporting but he is using city funds. That is his advertising campaign about how Bridgeport is getting better every day.

Bob Walsh, the marketing campaign that does not include the Mayor is offensive to you? Do you not believe the city should market itself? Are you speaking for yourself or the Foster campaign. Do you not have pride in Bridgeport? Does it curdle your blood seeing these commercials all over cable? Bob, I should wake up? Maybe Bob, you have a better way to promote Bridgeport? Maybe promoting the city and marketing it is just not important to you and your campaign. I’d suggest you get busy with a little fluff. We have many things to be proud of in this city regardless of whom your candidate is.
Steve, City Wars is one of the reasons Mayor Bill Finch is so scared of Joe Ganim, this primary and general election will be exciting.
Ron, I do not think Mayor Finch is scared of Joe Ganim. Coming from a Mary-Jane Foster supporter, this is curious. City wars is not on the mind of most voters. There was nothing in this depressing film that appeals to taxpayers in the North End, Black Rock and Brooklawn, etc. etc. etc. The film in many ways was embarrassing to watch. A city that has become so vibrant is portrayed so dark and depressing. I think if the film were viewed by individuals attending yesterday’s concert it would be seen as a total buzz kill.
For Ganim supporters it was great. For minorities living in public housing, a real positive to get votes. For minorities living throughout the city and paying taxes, not so impressive.

Ron Mackey, you are most incorrect. The film helps former Mayor Joe Ganim. It does absolutely nothing for Mary-Jane Foster. Bill Finch already has his base. The film helps Ganim secure every anti-Finch vote and for that he gets an A+. I am still trying to figure out which of you is helping Foster more, you or Bob Walsh.
A few episodes ago on Bridgeport Now, Ms. Owens, the daughter of Judge and Ann Owens, who works for a TV production company in LA, was promoting a reality show that was given the green light. She spent time filming and profiling political candidates in and from Bridgeport. She filmed interviews with many local and statewide candidates and the plan was to follow them during the election cycle, the ultimate goal was to engage the 30 – 45 year old demographics (huge fans and viewers of reality TV) nationwide to become engaged voters, well, just voters. The idea was highlight a group of very diverse candidates, from our own very charming Ernie Newton (and I do really LIKE Ernie) to Dave Walker (and I do know, respect and have worked for Dave) so people could identify with candidates with similar backgrounds, or candidates they could aspire to be. It is believed the only way a true democracy can survive and thrive is with an engaged and informed electorate. Her idea was in my humble opinion both viable and productive. This seems like a very bastardized version of her show.
I wonder what became of Martha’s project. She’s so vibrant and well-informed when it comes to Bridgeport politics. I remember her as a little girl, and I was so happy and impressed when she was interviewing us.
She is very accomplished, focused and professional. Very impressive. I like you wonder what the status of the show is these days.
