  1. Bridgeport’s city motto should be “Thank God for Hartford!” the state capital has a smaller population and a higher murder rate. Only in Connecticut.

  2. Hopefully, they will all be okay. It is not surprising you get a Mayor Finch and Chief Gaudett negative remark. It really is just sad. As though anything they do has anything to do with these sad episodes.

  3. Steve, the police force being understaffed is most certainly Finch and Gaudett’s fault.
Since you hounded Bob for answers about the Bluefish yesterday I have a question for you. Since Beardsley Park and Washington Park are walking distance from the Knowlton Street Park, couldn’t that 12.5 million dollars it took to build that park (not counting maintenance costs) had been more effective for quality of life if given to the police force?

    1. Quentin, number 1, the shortage of police had nothing to do with this incident.

Number 2, Bobby Walsh never answered my question on the Bluefish and neither did Come Back Bridgeport.

Number 3, Knowlton Park is not walkable to Beardsley park or Washington Park. You want to take a walk???

Quentin, a Republican will not be a mayor in Bridgeport. The children of the working poor are grateful for these parks and the creation of green spaces spurs economic development, enough said on the subject. Quentin, to be honest, I am bored with explaining the obvious of basic textbook urban planning. If you think this city doesn’t need more parks then I cannot repeat the obvious ad nauseam. I am just tired of this redundant horseshit. Enough already!

      1. I won’t get into the merits of Knowlton Park. However, Quentin is right about the walking distance. Washington Park is less than .5 miles away. Beardsley is 1.5 miles away. Heck, the city makes high schoolers walk up to 2 miles to school. Technically, both parks are within walking distance to Knowlton Park.

        1. Eric, honest to G-d, if you’d let your kid walk .5 to 1.5 miles to a park, I would be shocked. Being a Ganim supporter I would not expect a logical response. The day a Bridgeport kid walks two miles to school I expect hell will be freezing. Honestly, could you just see a Bridgeport High School student walking two miles? They can’t walk 10 feet to throw out their garbage.

  4. The value of physical entities that were created for real purposes should not have to be explained. The value of Steal Point and of parks created on formerly taxable industrial land only have to be explained because their value is dubious.

Perhaps our Economic Development Director, STAMFORD COUNCILMAN (STAMFORD ELECTED OFFICIAL!!) DAVID KOORIS, would be willing and able to explain what we need to know about these very valuable developments that are costing the taxpayers of Bridgeport so much money and will continue to cost us money until they are obsolete and need replacement.

(AGAIN, I MUST ASK: WHY IS OUR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR AN ELECTED OFFICIAL FROM OUR CHIEF MUNICIPAL ECONOMIC COMPETITOR? IS THERE SOMETHING NOT QUITE RIGHT ABOUT THIS?)

    1. Jeff, which of the following do you think is the strangest?

      1. David Kooris, Economic Development Director for the city of Bridgeport overseeing the largest economic development projects in the city of Bridgeport in the past 50 years hired by our Mayor who also happens to have political aspirations in the town he lives, Stamford. Bridgeport could only benefit from that relationship. It is not like a business wanting Bridgeport will be hijacked to Stamford. Or,

      2. Joseph Ganim having been Mayor for 11 years, taking 10 years to apologize for his “mistakes” that dragged the city into lawsuits, missed developments, tainted reputation, corruption. Thousands of news articles in every newspaper across the State of Connecticut, convicted on 16 felony convictions, carpetbagger, no longer able to practice law, etc etc etc and endorsed by the Bridgeport Police, Mario Testa and the FBI agent who put him in jail for seven years now believes he is the best choice for mayor, without interviewing the other candidates. That Joseph Ganim would have the audacity to believe as a convicted felon he deserves to receive the keys to the kingdom. Convicted felons in the city of Bridgeport on a minor felony could not get a job at McDonalds or Subway and yet the office of Mayor in the largest city in the state in the wealthiest county in the country in the poorest city in the state and the man has very expensive tastes.

Jeff, which is not quite right??? The voters would choose number 2, you?

    2. Jeff and Eric,
Don’t waste time and thought trying to reason with Baghdad Steven Auerbach. He’s not a reasonable man. Shame on you both for getting into a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

Neither Finch nor Gaudett were directly involved in this latest shooting incident. It is a direct result of Finch’s complacency in not maintaining a police department at optimum staffing levels. It is also a direct result of his and Chief Gaudett’s inattention to the proliferation of illegal guns on the streets of Bridgeport.

NYPD Police Commissioner Benjamin Bratton instituted a “broken windows” policy, citing landlords and property owners for blight and minor offenses that, left unchecked, lead to greater quality-of-life issues. The NYPD’s “stop and frisk” program took a lot of guns off the street, 9mm semiautomatics and Macs and Uzis, the kinds of guns favored by drug dealing gangs and street thugs. “Stop and frisk” took more guns off the street than Finch’s cosmetic “gun buyback” efforts. (Since the last buyback there have been six shooting incidents including one murder.)

So Steven Auerbach, to respond to your comment, neither Finch nor Gaudett put the gun in the perpetrator’s hand but they are responsible for not keeping it out of his hand. The mayor and police chief are public officials. As members of the public we have the right to point out their deficiencies.

      1. Bridgeport Kid , your popularity on this blog is mind-boggling to me. The way you try to inject yourself into a conversation you have no knowledge of except to demean and insult. That’s okay! With the mayor’s endorsement today, your hope gets dimmer and dimmer. You are frustrated and I am sad for you.

  5. (Sorry, Kid. Can’t help it.)

Steve. The voters respect a previous strong showing of policy acumen and leadership, time and extremely high personal costs paid, and the practical necessity of replacing an incompetent tool of an administration.

Your guy’s incompetent use of taxpayer money and his damaging eight years in his leadership position have earned him a trip to the egress on Wednesday, along with the Malloy plant from Stamford in Bridgeport City Hall, David Kooris, Stamford City Councilman. (AN ELECTED OFFICIAL FROM A RIVAL CITY SHOULD NOT BE SERVING IN AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT POSITION IN BRIDGEPORT. IT SCREAMS OF INCOMPETENCE AND BETRAYAL IN CITY HALL! CONFLICT OF INTEREST! DAVID KOORIS–S-T-A-M-F-O-R-D.)

  6. Another shooting. Thank you for lying to us, Mayor Finch. “Bridgport is the safest it has been in 40 years,” eh? Tell that to the patients in Saint Vincent’s ICUs being treated for gunshot wounds.

Bill Finch’s mother must have been frightened by a two-headed dog while he was in utero.
