Remembering Officer DiJoseph

From city Communications Director Brett Broesder:

Officer Gerald DiJoseph was fatally shot 34 years ago during a traffic stop at 65 James St. The Bridgeport Police Department will honor him and his family today. A patrol car stationed at 65 James St. will sound its siren at 5:15 p.m., the time when Officer DiJoseph was shot. In response, Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch made the following statement:
“Officer DiJoseph was a family man who came to work every day and protected the kids and families of Bridgeport. He gave his life doing that. He left behind his own kids. To Danielle, Jerrod, and Matthew, our city always will owe you a debt of gratitude. Your dad will not be forgotten.”

Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett added:
“Like police officers in cities across the country, our officers risk their lives every day to protect kids and families of Bridgeport. There aren’t many people still on the job who worked with and remember Officer DiJoseph, but he will never be forgotten. He wore the same patch on his shoulders and protected and patrolled the same streets that our brave officers do today. He made the ultimate sacrifice. His wife, his kids, and his grandkids still do every day and we will continue to honor them.”
