Wilfredo Martinez, who provided John Gomes a lifeline on his Bridgeport Independent Party line, has withdrawn his support for Gomes if he decides to pursue his candidacy for a special general election Feb. 27.
Martinez issued this statement to OIB Friday morning:
“After careful consideration, I am withdrawing my independent party support for John Gomes as Mayor of Bridgeport. Recent developments have led me to reassess my support, and I believe this decision is in the best interest of the community.”
Martinez became disillusioned with the lack of input he had with the Gomes campaign. After Gomes lost the first primary to Mayor Joe Ganim, his only platform to run in the November general election was the endorsement sanctioned by Martinez.
Martinez’s support withdrawal will not vacate Gomes spot on the ballot, if he pursues a run, because it’s unclear about the legal force to pull back a ballot-line endorsement, but this will certainly provide some pause losing the personal support from the party chair buoying a ballot safety net.
Martinez was not among the inner-circle of Gomes supporters invited to meet with the candidate Thursday night at headquarters to evaluate another run. Martinez says Gomes was disconnected from seeking his input to build a broader coalition beyond Democrats.
So Martinez is the Independent Party?
He sounds like Trump!
John Gomes can ask the Court for a (No Lable Candidate) status
LAMOND!!! TAKE A DEEP BREATH, OPEN THE DOOR, AND LISTEN TO THE SOUNDS OF THE CITY’S VOTERS!… THE DOORS OF BOTH CITY HALLS ARE BEING HELD OPEN FOR YOU!! JUST SAY “OPEN SESAME” — THE MAIN POINTS OF YOUR PLATFORM — FOR THE MEDIA AND A RANDOM SLECTION OF DOOR-KNOCKED/CHURCH-GOING VOTERS, AND THE DOORS WILL STAY OPEN FOR YOU THROUGH 2/27/24….
GO FOR IT, LAMOND!! BRIDGEPORT IS VERY, VERY RIPE FOR REAL CHANGE…. YOUR THE GUY TO BRING IT…
BRING IT ON, LAMOND!!! (NO HEAVY BAGS OF ABSENTEES SLOWING DOWN YOUR RIDE TO THE MAYOR’S OFFICE…)
Jeff Kohut, Lamond has two open doors. One is the door that hit John Gomes on the way out. The other is the one I left open for my next State Senator. He’s in a position of negotiating in strength. Will you still see Lamond the same way if he gains passage to one or both doors?
It seems like the Independent Party ships are not sailing in the same direction. 🙃
John, always a pleasure.
Let’s see where the ships of this shit show docks at the Port, people.

Black Rock harbor is the only place left for Gomes to dock. That is if we don’t sink the ship.
