In less than 24 hours voting will begin for the general election. Polls close at 8 p.m. Don’t know where you vote? See here
Mayor Joe Ganim occupies the Democratic line, David Herz Republican, John Gomes Bridgeport Independent Party, Lamond Daniels petitioning.
Mayoral candidates and surrogates are on the trail appealing to voters to turn out on Tuesday.
If Gomes wins on Tuesday he becomes mayor-elect, pending a possible appeal of Superior Court Judge William Clark’s order for a new Democratic primary. If another candidate wins, a new Dem primary will be scheduled between Ganim and Gomes. If Ganim wins on Tuesday and then the redo, he’s mayor again. If Gomes wins the redo, another general election will take place because Ganim has a spot on the New Movement Party line.
So, if you’re suffering from a severe case of political whiplash trying to figure all this out, don’t despair…you’re not alone.
As for Republican David Herz, he subscribes to the Intelligent Voter Theory.
A Last Thought on Our Fabled Election
I subscribe to the intelligent voter theory.
Every elector who has taken the care to register has done so because of his commitment to our republican way of life.
Every person who arrives to vote has vetted the candidates and come having made an intelligent choice.
In our special case, every candidate would have found himself on the ballot anyway. The primary would only change the line on which he appears.
This does not matter to the intelligent voter.
The intelligent voter can find the name of his chosen candidate wherever it appears on the ballot.
Further, anyone who would launch a battle for the top line, either through stuffing a ballot box or resort to the courts, could only be doing so because he does not believe in the intelligent voter.
I cannot say if this represents an attitude of contempt, disdain, arrogance or something else. Whatever it is, it stinks of manipulation and bad faith.
We are not sheep. Those who would think we are do not deserve our vote.
You, the people of my admittedly adopted city, deserve better. You deserve leadership that puts as much faith in you as you do in it.
I may have a lot to learn, but I already know that the wisdom necessary to move this city forward, to polish the diamond that this city is, is to be found in your hearts and minds.
My job is simply to draw that out and give it voice.
I thank you for your consideration and I pray I live up to the expectations you have for me.
David R. Herz, Republican
Candidate for Mayor

DearOIB Reader: As I reach out to the community at large by sending a third “letter to the editor” this election season, I encourage all who are eligible, registered, and informed as to candidates running for municipal offices on November 7 to vote. In Bridgeport, Judge William Clark announced that a new primary caused by video footage of numerous absentee ballots, placed in boxes by many fewer individuals, and testimony by Bridgeport politically active citizens using their Fifth Amendment rights (refusing to answer questions as testimony) will be ordered.
Progress in revealing the results of investigations that took place since the September 5 primary in question and establishing consequences will proceed and doubtless be reported. But we believe that the active civil rights of citizens continue to be supported by being registered to vote and casting an informed ballot for the candidates standing for office. When 50-70% of citizens decide to stay home on Election Day in any community and complain about official decisions in between elections, active democracy is showing serious signs of sickness.
This morning’s edition of the CT Post covered the shakeup in the mayoral race, but also an article on Fairfield Police finding hate graffiti of racist, antisemitic, and homophobic nature at residences under construction. And within the past two weeks a report in the Trumbull Times disclosed that a number of transparent baggies with white gravel to avoid scattering were left near suburban postal boxes. They contained a message directed to men of European descent in New England to network “raising authentic resistance to the enemies of our people.” Encouragement of “training, activism, outreach and above all action” is the work of The Nationalist Social Club. “New Englanders! You are being replaced, organize and resist”, is the message on the other side of the notice.
The Greater Bridgeport NAACP stands for the civil rights of all people in the communities of Bridgeport, Fairfield, Stratford, and Trumbull. We encourage everyone to vote, to attend public meetings where conversations can inform in a different manner than social media, and to join with others to pursue economic and social justice for all citizens, today and into the future. ACT! Action changes things.
Dr. Lesly Valbrun, President, Greater Bridgeport NAACP

A very low $3 Million budget for 840 streets in Bridgeport is your street one of the lucky ones.
Jim Fox,
Three million or ten million. Capital budget approved by City Council or press release financial commitment by the Mayor neglecting term, limitations, or other specifics. Credible or otherwise? Time will tell.
