You Say You Want City Council Primaries–How About 8?

File image: City Council President Aidee Nieves, left, and City Clerk Lydia Martinez, seen here campaigning for State Rep. Antonio Felipe, are at war on the East Side. Martinez is running two candidates against Nieves and Maria Valle.

Here we go. Plenty of potential City Council primary action for September. Challengers to endorsed Democrats are circulating petition signatures in eight of ten districts. They must secure validated signatures from five percent of respective district Democrats to qualify.

High profile battles include Districts 131 (South End, Downtown, West End) where incumbents Denese Taylor-Moye and Jorge Cruz are endorsed; 137 (East Side) endorsed Rosa Franco and Elsie Mercado against incumbents City Council President Aidee Nieves and Maria Valle; and 138 (Upper East Side) incumbent Samia Suliman and Kevin Monks against incumbent Maria Pereira and Michele Small and Tony Barr and Michaela Barr-Brant.

Petition challengers:

131 SAMARIS ROSE, JESSICA NIEVES

131 TYLER MACK, SHAVONNE DAVIS

132 DASHA T. SPELL

133 AIKEEM BOYD

135 JOSEPH D. THOMPSON

  1. Ron you say let the games begin, well they have in earnest in the 139th. Did you notice that VICTORIA MAJEWSKI is running in the 139th and yes she is a white woman running in the historically Black 139th district. She is a disciple of Maria Pereira and she’s from New Haven using her parents address, ain’t that a bitch? Here’s the capper Brother, most of their campaign money came from the bigwigs of the Democratic Party here in Bridgeport, ain’t that a bitch?

This should send a clear message to Ralph Ford, Ernie Newton, Enida Martinez and the Black folks of the 139th and of Bridgeport, these white political leaders don’t give a damn about you unless they want to and that if they don’t give you something you shouldn’t have it whether it benefits your community of not! This is a SLAP in the face of the residents of the 139th and when Mayor Ganim brings his punk ass back to the neighborhood you should let him know he’s Not Welcome!
