Who’s Your Horse In Presidential Primary? Election Hotline Set Up For Voter Concerns, Absentee Ballots Low

Can Hill fend off the Bern? Will John Kasich and Ted Cruz even be competitive against Donald Trump? Connecticut’s registered Dems and Republicans head to the polls on Tuesday to select their preferences for the general election. The state’s largest city received visits from Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton over the weekend while Bernie Sanders also made his presence known in the state. Connecticut offers closed primaries meaning only electors registered with a party may vote. In this kooky presidential election of charges and counter charges, Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill has set up a hotline if you encounter any issues at polling locations. Let us know if you hear of anything as well. If you’re wondering about Bridgeport’s legendary absentee ballot operation, it did not show up for this primary. AB requests are a fraction of the mountainous action that occurs in local races. Doesn’t it amaze how many electors vote by absentee ballot when no one is working it?

From CT Secretary of State Denise Merrill:

Hartford: Connecticut Secretary of the State Denise Merrill is alerting members of the public to use the State’s 866-SEEC-INFO hotline or to email elections@ct.gov if they encounter any problems at the polls. The hotline and email address will be monitored between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm by the State Election Enforcement Commission and the Secretary of the State’s office.

Secretary Merrill said, “We need to hear from you if something is not working as it should. Please let us know if you encounter any problems. Your vote must be counted. There is no acceptable margin for error on Election Day. None. We are grateful to the State Election Enforcement Commission for working with us on this valuable service.”

“We count on the public as much as we do election workers to report problems,” said Michael J. Brandi, Executive Director and General Counsel of the State Elections Enforcement Commission. “Anyone with knowledge of election fraud or voting rights abuses is encouraged to call to report suspected violations. We will have the phones fully staffed to answer questions, advise on complaint procedures and, if appropriate, request the assistance of state criminal or federal law enforcement authorities.”

Voters who utilize the hotline or email may report concerns anonymously, but are asked to state the town and polling place where the problem is occurring and provide as many details as possible. This will enable SEEC and the Secretary of the State’s staff to attend to the situation and find a solution in a timely manner. In addition to the email and telephone hotline, the Secretary of the State’s office and SEEC will hold two separate conference calls during the day on Tuesday to share information about potential problems or complaints at the polls, and coordinate the appropriate response.

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 26 for registered Republicans and Democrats. Voters should go to myvote.ct.gov to confirm that they are registered to vote, locate their polling places and check what type of identification to bring with them to the polls.

  1. Lennie, are you going to continue to hold off on the AB complaint I filed against Lydia Martinez and her AB gang? Any word on the numbers of ABs sent out in Bridgeport for this primary? I got the list but it would be a waste of my time to send it to you. You will probably put it with the file of the SEEC complaint I filed against Lydia and her gang re: 1037 ABs and AB applications during the mayoral primary.

    1. donj, would you be surprised to know the two principal participants in the above mentioned complaint were just recently elected to the DTC of the 137th and again they won due to their AB operation? Lydia Martinez and Maria Hernandez are the two DTC members. Would you believe before the last mayoral election, Lydia Martinez and members of the city council went to Washington DC? Maria Hernandez posted photos of them posing in the office of our Representative. Why was Maria Hernandez taken along for the trip with them? She wasn’t an elected official or DTC member. LENNIE.

  3. Hey guys, I was turned away from the polls this morning. I thought if I went from Democrat to unaffiliated to Republican there is not a 90-day wait. Please fill me in.

    1. The Secretary of the State is onto that tactic. Some folks can slide under the radar but most don’t. Although technically you are switching from U to R, your Democratic affiliation and voting is on record and they flag that stuff. If you were U for 90 days or more it would have likely gone through.

    2. donj, I’m sorry to hear you or anyone else is unable to vote but there are rules and policies that govern the process. Seeing that you want to be a Republican and you support Donald Trump then I suggest you get involved and contact the local Republican Party here and you should contact the Trump campaign so you can get involved to get Trump elected in November. donj, at some point I would hope you tell us why you support Donald Trump.

  4. I called the election hotline and the guy said technically that is the law if you go from u to R or D there should not be a wait even if I switched that quick. He said I should have at least been provided with an provisional ballot and he is going to call the registrars of voters and tell them about Black Rock school not providing a provisional ballot. He said to go back later and request one. Welcome to Bpt where they can never get everything right.

  5. I just cast my ballot for Bernie. I haven’t felt so good about a vote in a long time.

You say you want a revolution
    Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it’s evolution
    Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don’t you know that you can count me out
Don’t you know it’s gonna be all right
    All right, all right

  6. Lennie,
What is happening with your Exit Polls?
Have you any results to share with us yet?
What are the Dems’ most important issues?
    What about the R’s?
    Time will tell.
Also what about the results by precinct? For R’s too! Are you working on that?
Will you have any figures on the number of make-believe R’s who were not allowed to vote because they were trying to dodge the law by making believe they were unaffiliated first?

  7. Well I will just have to sit this one out but from what prior bloggers have told me I could just register from Democrat to independent to Republican to avoid 90 days. I guess not!!!
