When A Kennedy Calls, Bill Listens

JFK
Thousands crowd Bridgeport railroad station as JFK whistles through the city days before winning the 1960 presidential election.

UPDATE: Because of pending storm …

The JFK Legacy Dinner celebrating the 50th anniversary of John F. Kennedy’s Inaugural has been canceled and will be rescheduled to a date to be determined.

New tickets will be available when the dinner is rescheduled.

JFK is Bill Finch’s political hero. Say JFK and Bill screams OMG! Want to suck up to the mayor? Introduce JFK into the discussion and you’ll have his immediate attention. Want your street plowed? Mention JFK in your Facebook complaint to hizzoner. (Okay okay, maybe your street won’t get plowed any faster.)

John Fitzgerald Kennedy is a major reason Bill Finch has led a life of public service, whether taking on the establishment as a young man or becoming the establishment at middle age. Bill’s idolatry for JFK has never wavered in the 30 years I’ve known him. When you’re a member of the City Council folks listen a little. When you’re a member of the State Senate they listen a little more. When you’re the mayor of the state’s largest city you can say I want this done and often times it will be done.

Finch is leading the charge locally to honor the 50th anniversary of JFK’s inauguration at a dinner on Tuesday at Testo’s Restaurant, owned by Democratic Town Chair Mario Testa. Students will be honored for their community service and JFK’s nephew Edward Kennedy Jr. is scheduled to be the featured speaker. Will Kennedy Jr., a Connecticut resident, run for U.S. Senate in 2012?

  1. In addition to all of Mayor Finch’s other responsibilities, now he is the Booking Agent for Testo’s Restaurant. This might be a good
career move. He will need a full-time job after the election.

  2. The only reason Finch has led a life of public service is because he is unable to get or hold a private-sector job. JFK wouldn’t give this political hack a second look.
