One week after a man was shot and killed outside of his car at the intersection of Park Avenue and Cottage Street, the Bridgeport Police Department has arrested a man for his murder.
Jorge Luis Oritz, 57, was taken into custody by the patrol division while walking on the East Side Sunday night. He ran from an officer but was quickly apprehended. Oritz had an active warrant for Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. He did not have a gun on him when he was located. Detectives and officers had been searching for him for several days.
Ortiz was scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in Bridgeport Superior court on Golden Hill Street. His bond was set at $2.5 million.
Nelson Manuel Batista, 48, of Bridgeport, was found lying on the street next to his car on Cottage Street suffering from a gunshot wound at around 9:00 a.m. on October 12th. He was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.Police believe the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident.
Mr. Batista’s funeral is scheduled for tonight.
The Bridgeport Police Department will be holding a press conference regarding the arrest at 12:00 p.m. today.

He will plea and try to get the lowest sentence posible for what it’s worth. The way whe are heading, Joe Ganim and Chief Porter will set up a Gun, Knife and Stone buy-back program.

Perhaps you wish to run for office? Your empathy for a neighbor who dies from a knife blade and uncontrolled human anger, with a relative facing you on the video before her loved one’s funeral, and your only response is that you perhaps recognized the assailant and invented what someone else thought was humor by providing you a thumbs up. But you had no comment about your “neighbors”, the folks around you. Isn’t that the fatal disconnect with President Trump? He only cares for himself daily, untroubled about the role he has rigged himself and complains about “hoaxes” and “fake news” as polls report that support of his administration has gone into the toilet, so to speak! As I keep reminding folks who still bother to read me, time will tell.
