Walker Registers As Republican, Step Closer To Statewide Run?

Walker on Face the State

Former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker on Thursday changed his voter registration from unaffiliated to Republican, a signal he could be announcing a statewide run for public office. He says he’ll make a final decision this weekend.

Saying he could be a partner in restructuring state finances, the city resident told OIB two weeks ago he’s considering a run for the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.

Walker says if he decides to make a run he’ll start with an exploratory committee as an “independent-minded and inclusive Republican.” Walker has been a visible presence at City Council meetings urging members of the budget and legislative body and Mayor Bill Finch to implement financial reforms, particularly in the areas of pension restructuring, health care and debt burden.

He has spoken often about Connecticut having “the highest liabilities and unfunded pension and retiree health care promises per taxpayer of any state in the union.”

Walker, a CPA, is treasurer of the political action committee Citizens Working For A Better Bridgeport that raised money and supported candidates in the September Democratic primary and November general election for school board and City Council seats.

  1. Good Luck, David. Welcome home, Jennifer.

I’d like to comment as of 1:10 am, City plows have been on Glendale at least 6 times. City workers are doing an outstanding job. They should be commended.

Has anyone been following Colorado, day two of recreational marijuana? It isn’t just the lines to get into the shops, but the variety and strength. The prices are outrageous. Schools will be the beneficiary with revenue going to the educational system. I wonder if like Amsterdam, Colorado will become a huge tourist destination. Forty years ago I remember quality marijuana, Panama Red, Acapulco and Hawaiian gold, Maui wowie. I hope those who partake use it wisely as with alcohol. There are far worse drugs to concern ourselves with. Colorado is a social experiment and I hope it is successful. Medically, there are many who need the relief only marijuana can provide, they deserve the opportunity to get a prescription filled locally if a doctor believes it is necessary.

On that note, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

    1. Hi Steve–still in Indiana with no Internet; gave Alexander Graham Bell his original cell phone back and upgraded to a phone a bit more modern. Reports in Colorado say a bag of Doritos now cost $149. ;-). Six inches of snow here with a foot predicted for Sunday and a high of -6. Going to find a snow plow to follow to CT Saturday. Gotta return and put a citizens volunteer plan in place to help elect Dave Walker IF he decides to run for office. Fingers crossed.

  2. *** This is the kind of change this city needs to shake things up a bit! Unfortunately I believe it will be a real uphill battle should Malloy decide to run again for Gov.! *** “Come on Walker, run for Bpt City Mayor Instead!” ***
