  1. Ever notice that when someone is accused of a crime, their first comments are ALWAYS “ I did nothing wrong”,then as evidence mounts, their next comment is ALWAYS “ no comment, the truth will come out in court”.. next step is generally a conviction.. It is like clockwork

    1. Joel, just for sh*ts & giggles, let’s say someone else withdrew the money either by stolen identity or by some other means.. Bird didn’t notice $2 million was withdrawn??.. These forensic audits are pretty thorough, there is money missing under Bird’s watch,a lot of money btw. This angle Bird is taking, questioning Barry Knott’s pay, etc,is not a wise avenue to take at this point. The Feds are involved now, they will get to the bottom of this pretty quickly now that the audit is complete.

  2. Excuse me for asking questions that others feel have been answered previously, but I view the Success Village failure of self-governance in part on the inability and/or inexperience of residents capacity and comfort in addressing management of their kind of property ownership. Good governance of an elected Board operates with a spirit of stewardship. Not autocracy.
President Bird was an elected President, it appears. Meetings are set to a schedule. Officers, whether appointed or elected, have duties. What do the Agendas, Minutes, and any other non-financial paperwork indicate. If President Bird was also a resident owner, did he wear any other ‘hats’ or responsibilities to his neighbors.
Last night at City Council I spoke again about governance, weak election activity in Bridgeport and wonder why there is not interest in CASUAL CIVICS CONVERSATIONS. Time will tell.
City Council Comments July 7, 2025
The weather locally was warm and bright, and the night skies were filled with the sights and sounds of fireworks. What were we celebrating this year as citizens on the 249th Anniversary of the document signing listing more than twenty-five grievances against a tyrant leader across the Atlantic Ocean? Next year is the 250th Anniversary but what grievances in the coming months will be dealt with to respond to current “tyranny” in the Executive Offices of our Nation? What will assuage the anxiety of thousands of local residents in HUD supported apartments raising questions about Medicaid, Social Security, and HUD funding?
What will speed up court processes for situations facing Success Village owners and residents where the heat and hot water issues have been settled after court instruction, but the transfer of millions of dollars from property sales, rentals, insurance benefits, resident payments, and other funds escapes current accountability, perhaps to the tune of $9 Million? Where is the action on a City Fair Housing Commission, in Ordinance form two years ago, but with no appointed members to field questions and help move the City forward in studying housing issues today?
What happened to the agreement in January 2024 by Council President Nieves and Mayor Ganim to appoint a Charter Review Commission but wait nearly 14 months of potential “review time” and provide only 3 months for bi-partisan citizen study? Even setting a City Council public hearing for review of Ethics and Civil Service areas, among others, on July 22, takes time away from getting any agreed upon Charter revisions onto the 2025 ballot in November. Pursuit of the ‘status quo’ as a strategy only requires deferral or delay as tools to be successful. CIVICS, the study of citizen rights and obligations, falters in Bridgeport when fewer than 10% of active registered voters actually cast a ballot. Isn’t that the history of 2021? Are you holding any Casual Civics Conversations in your District? Many are not. Why is that? What about CIVICS is dangerous? Time will tell.

  3. John, L it would seem the spirit is the “KEYS” to effective stewardship be it an democratic elected board or an autocracy appointed board, No? John B 🙂

I guess it be said, the “spirit” American is a form of a Republic, No? Perhaps democracy should put capacity limits on those who can vote based on there inability and/of inexperience that led to the failure of the self-government like what took place at Success Park when seeking that spirit of good governance?

What will speed up court processes for situations and failures in governance like Success Park and local governance is a valid question, what is answers? Oh, yeah, the “spirit” that resides in good governance

John L. I think you were a bit hard on the “tyranny” in the Executive Offices of our Nation, considering they tried to blow his head off. But what do you care if they succussed or not, right?

P.S I capitalize the word KEYS because it’s a coded word, though I don’t think your formal Yale education have a clue to its (mine) meaning/usages.
