Torres Proposes Placing Brakes On Taking Of Property, Booting Cars

Republican City Councilman Enrique Torres has been busy crafting a series of resolutions scheduled for referral to the Ordinance Committee Monday night implementing safeguards before home foreclosures and booting of vehicles.

Resolution presented by Council Member Torres re:

Request that Home Foreclosure action must only be employed after consultation and approval of said action by Common Council, first through appropriate Committee and then as a Whole Council, referred to Ordinance Committee.

Resolution presented by Council Member Torres re: Request that the taking of Vehicles and the action of “Booting” must only be employed after multiple offenses and that a Certified Letter be submitted to the owners of Vehicle and that Notice is provided to the appropriate City Council Committee for their Approval of said action, referred to Ordinance Committee.

Resolution presented by Council Member Torres re: Request that Leaning or the taking of Homes by Foreclosure Action by the WPCA or the City of Bridgeport must only be employed after consultation and approval of said action by the Common Council, first through appropriate Committee and then as a Whole Council, referred to Ordinance Committee

  1. Rick, who did the research on these? Foreclosures are matters handled in court based on state statutes and federal law. City council approval for foreclosures? The city council is a legislative body.

    Is the booting for non-payment of personal property tax? These liens are sold. Did you check with the tax collector to see what the process of notification is?

    1. Tom White, thanks, if someone received a document about foreclosure all they have to do is read it and the same for booting, it will you who has the authority and it’s not the City Council.

  2. Isn’t it horrible that sadly after another homicide this weekend, officials still try to pat their own backs by claiming crime is down? Oh what lies we share at election time. Please disregard what your lying eyes and ears tell you. The PD is lowering the stats for Finch and Co.
