Torres: Legislature Fails To Protect Residents From Compromised City Council

News release from Republican mayoral candidate Enrique Torres:

The state legislature failed to pass a house bill which would have eliminated the conflicts of interest which exist in Bridgeport’s City Council. By failing to act the legislature endorses the practice of city employees serving on the City Council. This practice allows the mayor to apply undue pressure on the council, eliminating the system of checks and balances which is fundamental to our democracy. Republican City Councilman Enrique Torres, currently running for mayor of Bridgeport, promises to enforce the Charter’s intent.

Torres said: “The state legislature let Bridgeport residents down today. If elected in November I promise to eliminate all conflicts from the city council and create a true balance to the executive office.”

  1. PLEASE!!! Enrique, you are doing your party a disservice by giving up the one spot on the City Council the Republican Party had because they won’t get any more in the next election. Your running for mayor will bring out the Democrats. Make sure you wear short-sleeve shirts so everybody can see your tattoo.
