Support St. Patrick’s Dinner

St. Pat's

When was the last time you attended the St. Patrick’s Day Scholarship Dinner? Time to dust off that tuxedo and support scholarships for bright Bridgeport area students who’d not have the opportunity to attend college. The dinner will take place March 14, 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn downtown.

Without this extra scholarship support a lot of the students would never make it to college, according to event organizer Art Laske. The student scholarship award is $5,000 for each year of school, so the dinner organizers distribute $20,000 a year to four active winners – all from the dinner proceeds.

The dinner serves as an annual event for area lawyers, business leaders, politicians, educators who get together and have a few drinks and a nice dinner, according to Laske. And hey, dinner organizers have modernized the invitation list to include women. In the old days it was fun to watch some women crash the event in tuxedo. Now it’s open to all! Organizers generally have a comic to giggle up the crowd. Speaking of comedy I wonder how many members of the City Council will attend?

This is a great cause for area students. For tickets ($125 per) contact Art Laske at acl@laskelaw.com.

And don’t forget the Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Day Parade March 17 will march downtown starting at noon. Frank J. Carroll, international vice president of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union, is Grand Marshal of the Parade.
