State Education Board Approves Replacement For Short FUSE

From Linda Conner Lambeck, CT Post:

The state Board of Education had nothing but praise for the new Dunbar School turnaround plan that replaces the one in place when Family Urban Schools of Excellence, or FUSE, ran the Bridgeport school.

The board unanimously approved the new plan at its monthly meeting on Wednesday, and it looks a lot like the old one, except for a change of management.

The school will now get help from Cooperative Education Services, a regional educational service organization, instead of FUSE, a private charter school management company. FUSE was fired by the city and state in June after they learned it was run by a convicted felon who lied about having a doctorate degree.

  1. I wonder what is happening with the SBOE audit of Fuse. The one conducted by Fran Rabinowitz raised significant questions about the backgrounds of additional FUSE hires and expenditures. Carolyn Vermont, former president of the Bridgeport chapter of the NAACP was given a $10,000 contract by FUSE. She has no expertise in education and was paid over $11,000. When she was asked why she received $11,000 instead of the $10,000 she was contracted for she responded by stating she submitted her invoice to the principal and she approved payment. Well that certainly explains the discrepancy thoroughly. I also wonder what is going on with the FBI investigation. Charter schools are being investigated throughout the country. I think people are really starting to understand the majority of charter schools are in it for the money, not the children.
