Shooting Outside Courthouse Linked To Weekend Homicide

Reports from News 12 and CT Post:

Four people were shot Monday as part of what appears to be a dispute between Stratford Avenue and Greene Homes residents.

Police were reviewing video taken by surveillance cameras after a car rolled up on another vehicle parked near the Golden Hill Street courthouse shortly after noon Monday and pumped at least 20 bullets into the sitting vehicle, striking four people. It then sped away.

Police Chief A.J. Perez, Capt. Brian Fitzgerald and Mayor Joseph Ganim tied the Golden Hill Street shooting to Sunday’s killing of Myreke Kenion, 18, and the wounding of a companion near the Greene Homes complex.

  1. Read the article.
Like I said: Money and manpower.
Obviously no one addresses the behavior aspect of it.
Where are the parents etc. etc. etc.
    Excuses will follow.

  2. Over the last three decades, 90 percent of high school or elementary school shootings were the result of White males. Good question Rich, where were their parents before they killed all of these children?

    1. Don, they were nice and polite and they didn’t sad anything to the police that would make the police officer to feel bad, that seems to be more important than the killings.

  3. It is a little too late for parential or caregiver intervention. A proactive approach by the police is expensive and will yield little results. The police do not have the insight where and when the next shooting is going to be, the police can’t be everywhere all the time.

The last news report by Ch-12 reported the victim from Greene Homes nor the victims from the court house shooting are cooperating with the police. This should not surprise anyone they stick to the code of the street. So how do you convince people to get off the path of destruction? How to you deter others from
taking that same path? The funeral of a homicide victim fallen by gun violence you would think would convince other people not to end up the same way. Sadly this is not the case and without some real changes, this cycle with continue to repeat itself. Gun violence is epidemic in this country and no law is going to fix it in the long run.

More often than not you don’t know why people do the things they do. Why do some people continue to prey on one another? There is no one simple answer but it can effect us all because you don’t know where and when the next one will be.

  4. These shooting are all gang related, Bridgeport had had gangs going back over 30 years, remember the Jersey barriers that were all over the East Side of the City to try and stop the Latin Kings? It was nothing but a maze that created a nightmare for firefighters, I was a Pumper Engineer at Engine 10 on Putnam St it was hell driving to fires and laying down fire hose. Where is City’s gang task force?

    1. Bob, sad but true, a newer curfew ordinance that won’t work and the ACLU fight it in court. You notice nothing was said about gangs and where are all of these guns coming from?

I was city council President 81-85 when my nephew was caught in a crossfire on stratford ave by rival gangs. We put a mobile unit on stratford ave. The state police came in to assist our local police. My nephew was shot in both of his legs, he was 8 or 9 years old at the time. Please save that bullshit for Ron Mackey ok. I’ve been fighting a long time to stop the violences in our city. Please Bob tell me what was your record while you served on the city council?

  5. Rather than demanding they see the report that the city paid for, it must be so damning than the city will just throw the money away.
And the council members will follow suit.

  6. Thank god. The city is going to impose a curfew on anyone below 18. Of course, no one below 18 was involved in the shootings. They just want to feel good about doing something.

Maybe you forgot 18 is considered an adult. We have 13,14,15 year old kid carrying guns and because the state changed the law. If a 13,14,15 year old is caught with a gun,our police can write them a summons and release them to their parents.

    1. Ernie, where are all of these guns coming from and they must be real cheap? I’ve never read or heard anything about a gun dealer being caught for selling guns to under age teenager. Where are the jobs and training programs for these teenagers? Bridgeport doesn’t care and think much about the 21,000 plus school students of which they are predominantly black and brown because Mayor Ganim refuses to invest into the future of the students. Why in the world would a company want to relocate here when there employees children would not get a top level education for children and to pay higher taxes? Ernie, let’s not forget Jayson Negron, 15, was killed on May 9, 2017 when officers in Bridgeport, Conn., tried to stop a stolen vehicle after a very brief chase, according to a May 10 statement from the Connecticut State Police, who are investigating the shooting. This is the same police department that will be stopping teenagers who violate the curfew law, what training have they had since the death of Jayson Negron? Again, where are these guns coming from? I’ve notice Ernie that NO ONE is talking about gangs and the territorial fights these gangs have in the drug game, big money is being made from drug sales and gangs will fight and kill for that money but it must not be that important because no one mentioned anything about gangs, drug wars and guns.

  9. The change in the juvenile law needs to be amended. These kids need to do serious time if the crime warrants it. This means collecting DNA along with prints and photos. The court system is too soft on crime in general with too many plea bargains. These prosecutors need to start earning their money and put themselves in the shoes of the victims. Once one juvenile sees nothing bad happens to them if they are caught with a gun, it is a trickle down effect other kids see this and the cycle repeats itself.

Too many excuses are made for juveniles, their brains are not developed or some other nonsense cooked up by some defense attorney. Their trigger finger seems to working just fine and you see what happens when they are no longer a juvenile. There is no one answer to fix the crime problems but it has to start somewhere.

    1. Stringfellow, what about the crime that President 45 committed and a number of Republican Senators said publicly that he did committed those crimes but nothing is going to happen to him, what a great example for children and teenagers, in fact the entire world was able to watch to on TV what 45 did and guest what, there nothing to stop him from committing the same crimes again or any other crime.
