  1. A power outage shutting down City offices and cancelling hearings and a City Council meeting. Shocking, perhaps!! But if your mind moves to conspiracy, rather than bad puns, the previous Council meeting on June 1, 2026 where members traded barbs about decisions and positions being “political” flew around the chamber.
I came prepared to share some thoughts with Council members. They will be less timely, except for the final mention of ETHICS, on July 6, having missed Flag Day, Presidential Birthday 250 Celebration, and July 4, the day we celebrate the Declaration of Independence (not the day actual signers of that Convention Committee Report put their lives and fortunes on the line.)

CC Comments prepared for presentation June 15, 2026…
Well, Knicks fans, we were treated to a Jalen Brunson Moment in game six of the NBA Finals in Texas, not Madison Square Garden. On the court he was short, but deadly, as he attempted and scored 45 of the total 94 Knick points, to bring the trophy back to NYC after 50 years.
At this same ‘moment’ an OP-ED in the CT Post by Professor Jonathan Wharton questions his own ‘political romanticism’ because of the behavior of a New Britain former Mayior with a self-serving financial history that requires further investigation, and investigations in the State university system leading to lessened trust by citizens of public officials and public institutions. But oversight can lead to action.
I am reading LIAR”S KINGDOM by Andrew Weissmann. It discusses how the failure to have laws specific to dealing with lies about factually verifiable election events, certified voting activities, and court results from suits pursued in the judicial system likely provide sufficient data to counter the “rigged 2020 Presidential results lie”, often repeated but nevertheless untrue, and thus leaves us with the “free speech” rules not limited for the President’s conspiracy narratives.
Television viewers of January 6, 2021, will never forget the muscular actions against persons and property, covered by cameras that day, the threats to Vice President Pence, and the physical force used against uniformed officials attempting to maintain peace. Where are the multitude of viewers who knew that the outgoing president was also viewing the death and destruction of democratic history? What story do they hold dear in the days since, where autocratic practice of lessened regulations, executive tax decisions making a few folks richer, ignoring War Power Act Presidential responsibilities, as rampant personal self-interested corruption rules the day? Consider ETHICS as worthy subject matter for a Civics Conversation!
Create your own Brunson Moment for Bridgeport by having a casual conversation with some city residents! I welcome you to that action. It is a pathway to knowing and acting citizen rights and responsibilities. Why don’t you commit to one hour monthly in honor of the 250th celebration? Time will tell.
