Police Investigate Homicide On North Avenue

From Bill Kaempffer, police spokesman:

Police are investigating a fatal shooting this morning that happened on North Avenue. Patrol responded to 1010 North Ave. on a report of a person shot. Officer located the victim unresponsive near the entrance to the restaurant Mainport Fish and Chips. He suffered what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center by AMR personnel.

Information obtained indicates that the victim had been involved in an altercation with several other individuals prior to the shooting. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police have a tentative identification of the victim but are awaiting an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the victim’s identity.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Robert Winkler or Dennis Martinez in the Bridgeport Police Department Detective Division.

The detective division is releasing the identity of the man who was fatally shot this morning. He was the eleventh homicide this year. His name is Karlhenry Gay, 29, of Brooklyn, NY. Below is the initial release.
