Party Time! Celebrate The First Click Of Summer With OIB

The most interesting man in the world
Thirst with us Wednesday, my friends.

UPDATE: Sweet party! Big turnout. Thanks for attending. Special thank-you to Pat Dower and all the folks at BRYAC.

Somewhere around 7:08 pm today the summer solstice beckons, the angels will sing and we’ll celebrate our 5th anniversary. Yes, OIB is five years old (or somewhere around that) and what better time to celebrate and bring in the warm sun and cool breezes from Black Rock at the Black Rock Yacht & Athletic Club, 3074 Fairfield Avenue, location of the old Tavolini (not to be confused with the Black Rock Yacht Club). We’ll get started around 5:30. Let’s suck some oysters, sip refreshments, serenade your favorite pols and last right into the birth of summer. Now that’s a mighty reason for a party.

  1. *** Stay thirsty OIB friends and remember first round is on Lennie followed by a second round (draft beer only) on Sir Local Eyes, no? *** HERE WE GO! ***

  3. CORRECTING THE EXTRAVAGANT HEAPINGS OF Zena Lu:
He also stumbles through sand castles at the beach with a senior shuffle.
He is laughed at by Adam, Alanna, and Andy, the A’s who make up Finch’s AAA.
He has no horse, but keep talking about OATs.
Andy Fardy and he have spent more time at B&A department budget hearings this spring than at least one member of that Council committee who votes on the budget.
As a co-founder of Budget Oversight Bridgeport, he wants you to know BOB is looking for more volunteers: to do research, attend meetings, and speak “truth to power” on finances.
His role model is the long-lived turtle; steady, patient, with a focus on the finish line, not a byline.
Expects to be there looking for more “watchdogs.” Looking for courageous noisy barkers! Time will tell.

  4. Zena Lu,
A heartfelt “thank you” is more than adequate reward for what Andy and I and a few others are doing.
Flowery and exaggerated comments are fun to lampoon. Were you to begin to take them seriously, you might begin to think your budget documents are really accountable and full of quality because you get a “beauty contest award” for the submission the City pays for. Or you might feel you are really green while ignoring a coal-burning power plant just because it is a major taxpayer. (Assuming a coal-burning power plant is not the highest and best use of this property, what research and planning has taken place to replace the current taxpayer with a greener, public healthier and major taxpayer?

Hope to meet you tonight. Time will tell.

  5. *** Had a great time at BRYAC seeing and greeting old and new OIB bloggers, readers, family and friends, thanks Lennie! BRYAC’s lack of a good A/C breeze inside made for a welcoming of the first day of summer outside quite a hot one, no? They really could use some ceiling fans just to circulate the air in general while customers enjoy the tasty oysters and cool refreshments. *** HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ***

  6. Thank you for a fun party, Lennie. And a welcome to warm weather as summer entered Bridgeport forcefully on the last day of spring.

Good to see those who care about the unique City environment and might have different ideas on how to change its direction and momentum. Good to see people running for office, too, and looking for community support. Energy, integrity and experience beaming from the faces of Ed Gomes and Carolanne Curry, preparing for voter decisions after the polls close some four and a half months from now. And good to see those who wish to see and be seen at your “family” party.

AC is important for BRYC&AA to check out before their next do.

Just reflecting upon what will flow under the City’s bridge and into the port over the next 60 months, creating real news, wonderment and unique commentary on OIB. Time will tell.

  7. Thanks for all who attended OIB’s 5th anniversary at BRYAC Restaurant & Raw Bar. We are sorry about the air conditioning! It’s in and working but with the high heat and tremendous turnout it was not able to keep up. It’s nice and cool in here now! Thanks to Lennie, family and friends for coming; it was a pleasure to have you all.

  8. Zena Lu is so cool! While some people complain about the AC, Zena Lu uses it as a reason to showcase Lennie’s starpower (that cheese is dripping.
