Ordinance Committee Meeting To Regulate Adult Entertainment Cancelled

A lack of a quorum from members of the City Council’s Ordinance Committee has forced cancellation of Tuesday’s (tonight’s) scheduled meeting to review proposals to regulate adult entertainment establishments.

City Councilwoman Sue Brannelly issued an email today to constituents interested in the agenda items. Councilmen Warren Blunt and Rich Paoletto are the co-chairs of the Ordinance Committee. Lydia Martinez, Howard Austin, Richard Bonney, Bob Curwen and Marty McCarthy are also members of the committee. Four in attendance is required for a quorum. If the co-chairs are unavailable and a quorum is established members can select a chair for the meeting. Brannelly posted in her email she will push for a special meeting to move the agenda items.

  1. The public was geared up to attend this meeting. You mean to tell me at least four members of this committee could not attend this important meeting? This looks like an attempt to have the public lose interest and not attend the next meeting.

  2. This is bullshit. The City Council is so goddamned apathetic about the jobs they were elected to do, they can’t even get enough members to attend for an ordinance committee meeting. Way to go, dopes. Guess who’s gonna remember at election time?

  3. Remember in school when it came to report card time you got graded for attendance, effort and conduct? Perhaps OIB can start a report card for City Council persons and the seven Committees they people.
We can give a C for showing up on time, a B if you ask a question that is relevant, and an A if you have knowledge and wisdom that you are able to apply to the matter at hand. You can get extra points for courage in raising anything that might have been handled in caucus or executive session in the past. An A+ for voting to send the budget back to OPM and the Mayor for remedial work like removing the real “ghost positions” and similar expenses. Lots to be done. Time will tell.

  4. This is totally outrageous. So pathetically typical and transparent. Is it Curwen’s paycheck from Curcio??? Is it go along to get along from everyone else? Tells you how stupid the Council is if they think nobody gets it. I hope this one time they have made a HUGE mistake. There is passion and organization across the city on this issue. It will not go quietly or at all–period. See what they did on the state issue–ask Grogins about their political might. This group is going to be relentless and fighting is really a stupid political move. Not showing up is even dumber. Transparent and totally unproductive. Makes you wonder how committed Finch and his allies are to this issue. Like not. This alliance will shut down everything else this administration wants to do unless they get heard. Can you say “Kill Charter Revision for the heck of it?” Can hardly wait …

  5. The bill passed the House and so the Senate is next. So we need 4 out of 7 members for a quorum? How often does the Ordinance Committee meet and when is the next meeting?
