Lone Dem Primary, But It’s A Loud One For City Council

Voting is on for the only Democratic primary (can you believe that?) this election season, the Upper East Side clash between party-endorsed City Councilwoman Samia Suliman and District Leader Kevin Monks challenged by City Councilwoman Maria Pereira and Keyla Medina.

Judging from two years ago absentee ballots may settle this contest in the 138th District with more than 300 having been returned to the Town Clerk’s Office.

Two years ago Pereira ran well behind her running mate Jazmarie Melendez with the walk-in vote, but her absentee harvest pulled her over. Speaking of that, Pereira is due in court on primary day, along with several others charged with various counts of election fraud, stemming from the 2023 municipal race.

Will she show up or campaign?
