OIB’s Urinalysis Pissing Contest Goes National, Washington Post, CNN, FOX News

Hey, OIB, right?

From The Washington Post:

In Bridgeport, the showdown took place voluntarily after Newton and Pereira, both Democrats, began sniping at each other over a news item about budget figures that had been posted to Only In Bridgeport, a widely read site dedicated to discussing the city’s often-colorful politics.

“Please remember to take your meds,” Newton, the city councilman, wrote to Pereira on April 13.

Pereira, the school board member, hit back. “Ernie, I promise I will continue to take any and all prescribed medicine,” she replied. “In turn, please ensure you take anything you need that may have to be swallowed, snorted, inhaled, or injected.”

From CNN:

“Stop taking drugs. It is killing the few remaining brain cells you have left,” Pereira wrote.

Two days later, Newton appeared to accuse Pereira of overdosing on medication and referred to her as a “psycho” in the comments.

That prompted Pereira to challenge Newton to take a drug test that she would pay for, so long as the results were posted to the blog, Only in Bridgeport.

Newton accepted and took the drug test that same day. Pereira took her drug test the day after Newton and provided her paperwork to Only in Bridgeport three days later.

The two tested negative for the same 10 substances, including marijuana, cocaine and opiates, according to the results published on the blog and provided to CNN.

FOX News:

Some political feuds end with an election. This one ended with a urine test.

Two local lawmakers in the Connecticut city of Bridgeport spent the last week hurling insults and accusations of drug use at each other — before deciding to settle the matter by peeing in a cup for a drug test.

The nasty – in so many ways – public feud ended on Monday after the results of the tests for Bridgeport City Councilman Ernest Newton and Board of Education member Maria Pereira were revealed. It turns out that both lawmakers tested negative for 10 substances— marijuana, cocaine, amphetamine, methamphetamine, opiates, oxycodone, PCP, barbiturates, benzodiazepine and methadone — according to The Connecticut Post.

The feud between Newton and Pereira began when they started attacking each other in the comments section of a story that appeared on the popular local website Only in Bridgeport

    1. Wow!!! Big time!!!!
      The Washington Post!!!
A spot on CNN Ernie says!!!!
At least the world will now know what we have known all along:
How F’d up the city is, has been, and unfortunately will continue to be!
CNN could really have some great scoop besides the urine tests. They could retell the JG 1 corruption and the rise again to glory. How a pizza CEO controls the largest, poorest most crime ridden city in Connecticut. How Chiefs are made! How corruption still affects all aspects of the city and maybe interview the lead FBI guy in charge of the investigation.
Voter fraud, corruption with OPED, planning and Zoning and elected officials who don’t even live within city limits and those who use city agencies for personal uses. Etc etc.
CNN could probably make a multi part miniseries about a city where literally “there’s a sucker born every minute”!!!! Who said that?…..
Oh wait…….yes…..PT Barnum!!!! We could blame him for all of it, take down his statue, and call it fake news.
Great for attracting business to town!!
People will flock to move into the city.
Ya just can’t make this shit up.

    1. Lol. It is really funny isn’t it!!
Look- we all know that no matter what happens and what’s exposed that nothing ever really happens to correct the problems because the people keep electing the same old same old NO MATTER what!! That’s why almost every slate should be cleaned. The problem I see above and beyond the local level is that there is no higher authority coming in to set things straight. The elections board, the attorney’s generals office and other state enforcement agencies just don’t do much to right anything. I know that even the DTC chairman drives in regularly from his REAL residence which is NOT within city limits. The many in the Ayala family that don’t live where they say etc. People in elected city office have businesses and are tax evaders to both the city, state, and feds. Nothing is done or even investigated. It’s because of the power to deliver votes both local, state, and even nationally. The votes of The uneducated electorate AND the intelligent ones (politically that is) that have only their own agenda to protect. It’s what makes the world go around for the certain few…. everyone else doesn’t matter.

    1. Pissing contest aside, if everyone in charge of the different entities in the city looked into things the way Maria does Bridgeport would be a better place. Yes she may be caustic etc. but I see it as she points out the ills of how things are done. Like her or not…………………
      The truth hurts!!!!!!!

  2. Unbelievable. First a convicted felon is re-elected. Then another one is elected to the City Council. As if that isn’t bad enough the second convicted felon got into a literal pissing contest that made it into the Washington Post.

It’s just a matter of time before the DTC’s official rah rah steps in to pronounce this as “great for the city.”
